AOL Saving

Me too! I have been with AOL for 8 years and in Sept 07 I took out the "free" laptop deal through Carphone Warehouse but I can't find out if it was a 18mth or 24mth deal. I have checked my AOL account info online and it says the end date of my contract is Never.... so I guess I'm not tied in? Does anyone know if you can haggle with this deal? Or how you can find out from AOL?

The laptop deal is 2 years I tried haggling with them and they are not budging on this.0

I phoned AOL last week, have been with them for 4 years now and my service is a non capped up to 8meg but i wasn't happy because my internet was running like dial up.
They said it was because i had the wrong router but the only way to get a new one would be to join a new contract that would mean i had a capped service,i politely told them that it was they that had supplied the router and as i was paying £29.99 per month for what i considered to be an inadequete service i would have the MAC code and leave them for someone cheaper who would provide a new router and an uncapped service.
After a lot of debating i was finally put through to someone who was going to give me the code but when i got through he offered me a new router and a 12 month contract at reduced price of £15.99 copmpletely uncapped.
I realise its not as big as some savings and i realise its another 12 month contract but i dont mind that-it was the fact that it was a lot of money with poor service and refusal on a new router when i consider myself a loyal customer.
I got my new router and it really has picked up speed plus its cheaper,he said they have had deals running since the beggining of january too.0 -
Cant see how a new router would improve your speed, sounds like they are telling porkies0

I've been with aol for about 6 years now. I did this about 2 years ago and got my £24.99 gold package reduced to £9.99 and a free wireless router.
For the first 2 years I had nothing but THE worst hassle with aol. Unfortunately it was my only broadband option in my area, even BT wouldn't provide for me (lol). Anyway since then it's been really stable.
I've always been on the unlimited package, which really isn't but we all know how that goes. Anyway, we have a really busy household which means upto 10 people can be sharing the internet at a time, with everything from pc's, laptops, consoles, mobiles and everything else accessing it. Individually we don't exceed limits or more accurately over indulge in our online activites but more and more recently I've noticed AOL capping the connection because obviously, when many of us are using it at once it can get fairly heavy.
Anyway.... I'm wondering if it's worth calling up AOL to see if they can do anything more to provide for me on this basis. Even if it means threatening to go elsewhere?
Is the laptop offer still going because I'm even wondering if it's worth testing their limits on getting that thrown in. I believei t was for new customers only but I've been with them for ages, I'm out of my contract, well out of it but at the same time I probably wouldn't mind being tied in for another 2 years because the thoguht of changing and going through the whole setup hassle with another provider all over again isn't very appealing. Any thoughts?0 -
I got my AOL 8MB broadband reduced to £6.99 a month today by haggling with their disconnections dept. I have been with them since 1999 (!) and my contract was due to end on 12th Feb 2009. (PS: I don't really like AOL, I don't use their stupid software, just have a permanent connection via my router but for £6.99 a month I'll be happy enough!)0

I am paying £24.99 a month on AOL Gold. I telephoned them up the other day stating it was too much now. They reduced my monthly payments to £9.99 permanently and gave me a wireless router free of charge! I am staying on AOL Gold. Worth giving them a bell!

This is well OLD NEWS, like 3+ years. You have been robbed by AOL all this time. As long as they own the equipment in your exchange, you can get £9.99, otherwise it's £14.99.0 -

I think they might be to be honest but i was telling them how bad it was and they kept blaming the router because it was one they didnt support,i only bought it because they refused to replace the original one and it was cheaper but they insisted it was.
It was probably to get me to go onto a capped service to get a new one but the speed has picked up a lot so they seem to have done something.0 -
