yep, i agree with hazard, noone packs their bags at the tills in lidl/aldi, and the best thing is, YOU were rude to the poor girl on the till and most definatley embarrassed her infront of all those patient people, when she was only doing what she is told to do.

    How Dare You!
  • Sorry you had such a bad experience - it does sometimes feel as if you're in a race with the checkout operator, and I find the faster I pack the faster they fling them through!

My local Lidl is much friendlier than the Aldi, although I'm sure that it varies from store to store. I hope this one experience doesn't put you off for good. It's a shame they didn't have the patience to explain when you were obviously new.

Once you get used to it, the system does work surprisingly well. How I do it is to have 2 really large fairly rigid bags (like the big blue ones at Ikea), or plastic crates or boxes, or even boxes from the store itself. Have them open and ready in your trolley. Make sure you put the heavy stuff on the belt first, and the delicates like fruit and veg or bread last. That way you can direct everything into the open container that you want it in without having to repack later, and it's just as quick as throwing it into the empty trolley. You can also have another big bag on the hook just under the trolley handle if you have a trolleyful (as I always seem to). Just remember not to fill the big bag with cans, or you'll never lift it out of the trolley!

For what it's worth, I can understand how much harder it must seem for your wife with the language barrier to contend with as well, but I doubt it was a factor - they;re equally rude to everyone I'm sure:p

I am afriad this is what happens when shops employ immigrants with little grasp of the language. :(

What?? What does 'little grasp' mean? So you presume that the staff member was an 'immigrant'[ with little grasp of what I presume you mean as 'English'? What utter nonsense!!

The OP himself said she had English as an additonal language.

more fool you for paying for the goods then - I would have just walked away like i do when ever I get peed off by a shop - they do not get my hard earned money - there are plenty of alternatives. As long as fools like you continue to give them your money they will not change - why should they - they get the same end result...in future just walk away...oh and perhaps some English lessons for your wife so that simple every day occurences in this country do not "distress" her....

He said HIS WIFE was 2nd language English. Didn't mention the checkout operator's language skills.

Re-read your post (OP) you were the first one to shout at the "robot" and she shouted back(good for her!), when the manager came you said you had a go at him, and wanted to throw the items at him, and then threw the money at the manager. Your a bleeding nutcase! I hope you get banned! I certainly wouldn't want you in my local shops.
