Well, there has been a bank holiday break but business is back to normal today with £200 to HMRC today to cover yesterday and today.

Makes my total so far - £5205.

I really need to get my accounts done so i can get my payment on account reduced...but its such a chore:rolleyes:

I thought this was what accountants were for

For a change and to round up what i have paid to them so far I have transferred £160 to them today reaching £6000 now paid off

I wish I could say that was it but sadly, it is not.:o

Never mind, its still satisfying to know i can make the effort and make a difference in quite a short amount of time:j

That must be very satisfying, though I am a bit :eek: at how much your tax bill must have been if this hasn't paid it off yet!

I like the comment about being a born again MSEer, it is on the mark. And it is amazing how one's perceptions of money change, once you become one

Like your comment about on the weekend other creditors get your money. Is this over and above the ordinary monthly payment.

    Hi Hypno and Chevalier

Chevalier, I had 2 years tax and NI to pay:eek: amounting to about £18k:eek: with interest and surcharges etc:eek:

It will take me a while to pay that off.

I am a tad anal about money now. I am so determined now to get rid of all my debt that i am selling anything that is not nailed down, and I am budgeting like a demon. It has given me a new lease on life. even with this horrid tax bill to pay i feel like the future is going to be better than ever. I have never felt that before, and its all thanks to this site and the support i receive from fellow mSE'rs.

I am lucky in that i have a good job and one that can pay well...eventually (that may change from April next year but lets not not think about that too much ).

The money i pay to MBNA are overpayments, my min payment is £300 (which incl an overpayment in itself cos I got into really bad arrears).

I am also now ahead with the VAT man for the first time in about a decade as a result of my weekly payment to them. I intend to keep it that way.

You know, we made a lot of hard decisions to try and grease the wheels. We moved into a lot cheaper place, a flat actually, knocking over £300pcm off out rent and halving our council tax. I make bulk meals and freeze them. I have a rigid shopping list etc.

Its gotta be done for now. I understand that its how the rich hold onto their money :p (being tight).

Thanks for your support everyone xxx

Yes, being tight is the "in thing" again, don't you know!

We, therefore, must be some of the most trendy bods about!
