golddustmedia wrote:I've said it before and will do so again. Forget finding free eye test offers etc, if you work with computer screen for more than 4 hours per day then legally your employer MUST pay the cost of an eye test for you. So go to the opticians of your choice and get a free eye test!
Note: Some employers may stipulate terms such as a particular chain etc so check with your HR dept or argue your case. None the less I've not paid for an eye test in over 8 years :-)
I used to make use of this when I worked in an office, but had to go to D&A at the time to get it free (company policy). I don't now work and don't rate D&A, so have to pay out to get a decent service.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
I hate to post negative comments especially as I haven't posted much lately. I went to Bracknell and ended up waiting months and going through about 6 pairs of glasses, wrong prescription transcribed to the computer, very cheap varifocals (wrong prescription), wrong prescription bifocals, bifocals broke before leaving shop and on and on. Then I went to Reading where I saw one of the top people who said that the whole prescription was wrong. They made some glasses which have been fine. But would I bother again - absolutely not. My wife and son went to Costco last time. You are better off paying for the test for much less hassle. Funnily enough, my wife is so pleased with her new varifocals as compared to D & A, and my son saves £20 per month on exactly the same contact lenses.0

I recently went to D & A, when I was told my new glasses would be over £300 I began to head for the door, rather than lose the sale a voucher swiftly appeared and the price dropped to £192.0

site says you will receive vouchers by email for:
Half Price Eye Test (Normal price £20)
Extra 10% off all glasses0 -
From my experience of D&A, make sure you go in there with both eyes open (so to speak). After an eye test for contact lenses, I was told to come back the following week wearing my old contacts for a further test. Afterwards they handed me a 'surprise' bill for £50 - on top of the £20 I'd already paid for the test!
They wouldn't give me the prescription (was told its "against the law"). Strangely, there seemed to be no problem buying the lenses from D&A there and then! I'd be interested to know what the actual legal position is on that.
When the lenses finally came, the prescription was completely out.
Just remember: price isn't everything.0 -
I'm not sure if its because i do actually need an eye test, but the only link i can find just takes me to the store finder on D&A's site not to the voucher itself-- i'm very confused... can you reprint the voucher web address please!

MSE_Archna wrote:A few weeks ago we showed MoneySavers how to bag a free eye test by picking up a copy of the Tesco in-store magazine. This time it's even easier. Just click on the link below, print off the voucher and take it to your nearest D and A to book an eye test. Voila! However don't feel the need to actually use D&A to get your glasses or contacts, grab the test and see...
The voucher's valid until 30 March 2006 and there's no need to buy glasses at the store.

Thanks to Heatherw who has pointed out you can book your test online too: click here0 -
It looks like D & A have had enough of giving away eye tests...the vouchers are for 1/2 price tests now.....Shame!

i have found many high street (big name) stores to be inferior. Recently tho i had a free test at my local university optician teaching practise. I.E. if you are lucky to have a college teaching opthalmatroniststhingummy people (opticians in old money) then they may have a practical department for the public to use. i had a very long and thorough test - over an hour. it was supervised by a fully qualified practitioner. I recieved a much more complete diagnosis that included the information that my current prescription had missed out a complicated but important element. i had known there was someting not right and had my suspicians confirmed. My previous opticians had only done hald their job and i have suffered as a result. i will never return to a high street optician ever again. ( p.s. I've been wearing glasses for most of my 40 years)if i had known then what i know now0
