OK RRE - let me start again from scratch

History - when I got the router I had to connect it in a different room to the desktop, so connected it wired to the laptop and set it up with a Wired and a Wirelss connection. Connected the Desktop Wireless and the Laptop and Printer, the network drive connected wired to the Router.

About 3 weeks ago managed to get the telephone point in the room with the desktop connected so connected router in desktop/printer/n/drive - wired and laptop wireless. All working fine, but noticed that the desktop had a wired connected called wireless, but as it worked ignored it.

This week connections been playing up, while not showing disconnected the connection "went to sleep" and missed messenger messages while in convesation, then woke up again. Fine this early morning, then it just got worse and the laptop kept losing signal and going back to Local, even though it is sat next to the router atm. I had tried to connect it wired, but even though the cable was in it and the router it said cable not connected, tried different cables, ports, usually illogical things you do. Then latop lost connection altogther.

Now desktop is working fine, just got the one wired connection into the router atm, but if you hold your mouse over the network signal you get two connections wireless and wireless 2, even though the wireless adaptor is disabled and only the wired one enabled, and if you go into Network and Sharing Centre it says Multiple Networks

On the laptop it has found the wireless conection wirelessly by name, but says unidentiied network and is local only.

I think that is the state of play now.

    Thanks

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?
  • Ok, have a read of this and follow the instructions here

The instructions must be followed in order

I think that this should solve your problem.

Just one question, the pc with the multiple network (desktop) is connecting and the other one (laptop) isn't, so which one do I apply it to?

My fear is if I mess with the desktop before fixing the laptop then I have no connection.

It won't harm to do it to both. Did you apply the netsh command to both as well ?

Ok ran netsh on the desktop and rebooted.

Triied following the instructions on the Laptop, but when it got to "Merge or delete network locations" while it came back and asked permission, which I gave, the screen has not appeared.

Should I try to desktop:eek: , would I be better if I switched the laptop off before doing the desktop or vice versa?

    Sorry to be a pain.

  • You can turn it off but it shouldn't make a difference
