Specs first:
Wireless Router: Netgear DG834PN
Connected - Desktop PC - Laptop - Network Drive - Printer
Was working fine, but now for some reason the Laptop is having difficulties though it was working earlier this morning.
Printer and Network drive current switched off, Desktop has both wired and wireless capability as does the laptop.
Using the Laptop wirelessly and itis coming up with - Limited or no connectivity - it went from full connection to local only to this. Tried the wireless connect on the desktop - normally use wired, and it works. However the wired connection is now showing two connections to the router?
I have switched everything off and on numerous times and booted in various orders. Tried it with the Desktop switched off and makes no difference.
I tried to connect a lan cable to the laptop but it come up with cable not connection, but then I see the wire connection is the wrong name. Now I know my passwords etc so quite happy to delete all the reinsall but it says I cannot delete.
The error message I am getting from the laptop is a IP Conflict.
Sorry this isn't very techie explanation.
Help Please.
DG
Not sure this is relevant, but TalkTalk converted our exchanged for Free Bband on the 19th, it has worked OK, but I thought it was slow at times, and since yesterday keep having cut out on the internet connection but quick come back, not sure whether line or this problem.

IP Conflict means that there are two devices on the network using the same ip address.
Is the router configured to be a DHCP server and allocating ip addresses, or are your devices pre-defined with static ip addresses?0 -
Yes it is set up to be a DHCP auto allocating.

On laptop and desktop try this from a command prompt
ipconfig /release
when this has completed try
ipconfig /renew
then see if you have connectivity.
Also ipconfig /all will give you details of names, ip & mac addresses for all your network devices0 -
Wow this is blowing my brain
OK so I was showing two wired connections into this laptop, so I switched off the laptop and disconnected everything to the router other than this wire, and it went back to 1:j
It will not let me do the ipconfig /release asit "requires elevation" - I presume this means I need to log on as administrator even though my id is set to administrator?
However, I saw that he IPv4 connection was using the same ipconfig as the router, so I disconnected that, it is not coming up with the ip conflict but still not good
It is still connected to an "Unidentified Network" and does not go to the internet
Oh and btw since switching the laptop back on I have two connections on the desktop, and the router only shows one connected device

I hate Vista! Don't have it anymore, but you need to right click on "something" and select "Run as administrator". The "something" should be related to running a command prompt. Can't be more specific without a Vista PC in front of me.
Edit: try this
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/run-a-command-as-administrator-from-the-windows-vista-run-box/0 -
Ok ran it as administrator
it came back, The operation failed as no adaptor is in the state permissible for this operation
So I reenabled the IPv4 connection
and it came up with the ip conflict again
so then re ran ipconfig/release
and got the same message
Ipconfig/ all is showing the router ip address with (duplicate) at the side of it

Try downloading the MS hotfix from here and see if it resolves your problem.

I take it I should apply this to the laptop?
Just a little concerned here, to what exactly is the problem causing chaos on two pc's just the laptop? What am I fixing?

Just apply it to the laptop (Vista) and see where you are after that. Trying to resolve the ip conflict on the Vista laptop first.0

Applied to Laptop and there is no change, the ip address for Ip4 is still the same as the router
