Personally I will be taking this no further, but if someone wishes to follow up--and gets a result I wonder how many people will jump on the bandwagon--me for one!
Thankyou to the people who do bother to chase these 'errors' up.

After all, look at ther heading on this site. Consumers revenge.
Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS
  • i must admit i got the email saying i wasn't getting the dishwasher and now im a little miffed. my dishwasher broke christmas and we can't possibly afford 300+ we can barely afford 94 but it was better than anything else i had seen. oh well keep and hand washing dishes until the money situation gets better
Converted comper to MSE. Thank you for all your answers!

Why didnt you answer my questions about job losses or are you really not botherd about the potential losses

Lets say B&Q lose £200 per dishwasher (which I feel is an over estimate!). That's £300,000 for the 1,500 customers. For a company (Kingfisher) that made £176m profit last year I doubt that they'd be forced into getting rid of people as a result of this error.

Sorry, but big companies exist to make money out of us, and I like to make money out of them wherever possible, in the true spirit of this Consumer Revenge website. If the management are haemorrhaging money because of their own incompetence, then it's the management's fault. Their job is to ensure the financial health of the company, and what's happened here is that they've c0cked up. (You said yourself on the Woolies thread that the buck stops with the management!)

I doubt that it will directly cause redundancies or administration, but if it does happen you can't blame customers for it.

I just don't understand this point of view, it seems to be quintessentially British. Where else would people feel they ought not to complain less someone lose their job? Surely this is a process of natural selection, where the good companies survive and the crap ones go bust. If nobody defended their position as consumers, or complained about mistreating of customers....we would be left with a right dodgy bunch of retailers. I understand that you are entitled to your position, but don't try and make us feel guilty for defending ours.

I may have been willing to let it go had a swift and truthful apology been forthcoming. As it was they have now belatedly replied, and in fact further peezd me off by lying about the fact that no money was debited from my account.

Count me in for the court case ;)

I am not trying to make anyone feel guilty, but in all honesty did you expect to get a £94 dishwasher or did you think (like most) that it was a misprice/mistake?

Of course it shouldnt have happened but we all make mistakes...dont we?

    What exactly have you lost?

I often complain about lack of service, but I dont think this is the same thing.

I have to disagree with you. I thought that this was probably a misprice when I saw it but gave it a go regardless.

However, it turns out that it wasn't a misprice. It was a genuine offer. Except there was a "system error" that allowed more people to purchase the dishwasher even though there was apparently no stock left.

What is annoying though is that it has been reported on MSE and HUKD that this exact dishwasher has been seen on sale for £89 at some stores AND at the full price but with a different barcode at others. So, there IS stock..

I'm not saying that 1,500 people should get a dishwasher for £89. Replying to the email like I have done is more of a message for them to get their act together. I agree we all make mistakes. If I made a mistake in my job then my client would certainly have something to say. As a result I'd make sure that I didn't make the same mistake again. If they didn't say anything I doubt I'd be quiet as careful in the future.
