how does that work exactly for big companies. I am sure the likes of B&Q have lots of CCjs from court cases not defended etc but it doesnt put them on a blacklist.

    interesting question tho!

Perhaps you only receive a CCJ if you fight and lose?

you have 30 days from judgment to settle in order to have it removed. otherwise it stays on record.

    I've been Money Tipped!
It would certainly tarnish their image. :rotfl: At the very least.

WELL DONE !! to TBeckett100, and all the others who spent so much time and effort on this thread. A true consumer revenge battle won !

It was very much a point of principle, and just goes to show that the 'little man' can win against the big stores. I read all the threads over the period with great interest, and for the doubters among you I hope you had the decency to admit (even to yourselves) that you were wrong.

The plain fact is, there are eastablished consumer protection laws in place for our benefit, as well as basic and accessible Court process - as demonstrated by TBeckett and others. Companies should not be allowed to ignore them. Had B&Q chosen to comply with the laws, offered sensible compensation to those conumers it had failed, or even just followed the MCOL process correctly, this would not have ended the way it did. Shame on B&Q.

We should encourage each other, not fight each other. We are the 'weak many' against the 'strong few', and as long at it is a valid case, we should work towards justice for us all be it in court or out of court. The consumer is all too often taken for a ride, and we should redress the balance for the good of us all.

Out of interest, B&Q have around 9 CCJ's showing against them since October 2008 - most via the MCOL Northampton court, and 2 recent ones in June and July being 'satisfied' ie paid for £285 and £676 which may be for claims in this thread. Realistically, it won't tarnish their image, but shows that you CAN win against the 'goliaths' if you have a case.

Well done again - keep up the good work !

Forgive me for resurrecting the dead, but I have just seen this thread.

While congratulating Mr Beckett on his victory, B&Q were really on a hiding to nothing here.

A year before I was treated similarly by Popcorn (an Amazon partner)

Popcorn were very hard nosed so I issued a money order for LOB. A week later they paid up.

However, the point of this post is not to crow, but to lament some of the ill-considered and often misleading advice which was offered on this thread, (and, no doubt, many others). It seems to me that there are a lot of members here who offer advice without fully understanding the legal position.

Consumers have few enough rights as it is, and those that they do are often poorly protected. Half of eBay traders seek to restrict one's statutory rights, Consumer Direct is little more than a call centre with people reading off scripts, and Trading Standards Departments are often starved of funds by politically correct Councils in order to employ more Diversity Co-ordinators and Outreach Facilitators. The last thing Joe Public needs when seeking advice on here is to be advised by a know-it-all who knows nothing.
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.
