  • I hate the Asda ones because the coupon slot is taped over and you have to ask for assistance, plus reduced items do not scan and they do not work when you key in the code.

Tesco ones are much easier to operate and I much prefer them...and I get away with using more MOCs than if I went to a human!!:rotfl:

I classify myself as being at the bottom end of the technologically-able ladder.
Never had a problem with self service tills.
I think I now have reason to reclassify myself as a technological genius :)

I prefer the self scanner you get at Watirose which means you can scan each item as you put it in your trolley:)

Get the Waitrose Food Illustrated magazine if you do Quick Check, it's free and there's coupons in there that can be used on any item. I save myself a couple of quid doing that. ;)
  • I never use them, I beleive in keeping people employed rather than machines!!

This reminds me of the comments made when self service petrol stations were first introduced into this country.;)

I've always found self service checkouts simple and hassle free. Though the fact that I used to work in a supermarket might help. The only thing that gets on my nerves is the darn people who use them with a trolly load of stuff, completely ignoring the 'baskets only' sign!! >:(

UNEXPECTED ITEM IN THE BAGGING AREA !!!
Lady supervising tries to make it shut up and let me use my bag.
UNEXPECTED ITEM IN THE BAGGING AREA !!!
The other supervisor comes over and tries.
UNEXPECTED ITEM IN THE BAGGING AREA !!!
We came to the conclusion that it doesn't like canvas bags much :rotfl:

I just bag things after paying when I use them now.

Is it just me who uses "skip bagging" all the time?

On the other hand there is nothing worse than standing in the queue for the self service till behind someone who doesn't have a clue how they work! I was stuck behind this stupid bloke today at lunchtime who kept trying to scan his sandwich completely the wrong way and then was looking around blindly complaining about how it wasn't working. I helpfully showed him where the barcode was and he just said "but it keeps skipping to finish and pay" - which it didn't. If you aren't clever enough to know that you need to at least put the barcode in front of the scanner then use one of the ordinary tills. The other till was being kept busy by a woman who kept putting her stuff in a bag on the floor and was complaining that the till wasn't working.....
