I haven't used Tescos ones yet. But the Asda ones are ok. It is a pain when you use your bag for life and the assistant needs to override it. Usually I don't have any problems with it.

The one day though the machine completely locked up and I had to wait ages for them to reset it. Asda gave me a £5.00 voucher for my trouble.

At tesco I find that if you put your bags on the space before you scan anything it works OK. And you just have to go a bit slower putting the stuff away. I can understand why they have them as 1 person can manage 4 tills but if there aren't any manned tills open thats bad. I only use them if its busy.
  • I never have a problem with them but I don't use them on principle. If they offered me a discount (after all, they are saving money on staff) then I would use them more regularly.

I hate them myself. If you buy anything age restricted (quite a large proportion of my Tesco shopping) you then have to wait for the woman with a face like a slapped 4rse to come over and huff and puff. The other day I bought an iron at Tesco and it didn't have a price on so I saw there wasn't a queue at the self service checkout so I scanned it through to check the price. Well, the reaction from the wicked witch, you would of thought I had just emptied my bowels in her living room.

Personally I prefer the normal checkout!

This is for the idiots who come on here just to make sarcastic comments. This forum is for people to vent their experiences with retailers. Its not for people who just want to attack the op or any other forum member.
  • I use them all the time, never had an issue with them as long as you take your time and watch! But there are some daft people who just can't seem to understand the concept that you need to put it down and let it check the product before scanning the next one and you can't allow your kids to climb all over it as I see time and time again!

    I don't believe it!

I was in Asda again today and used the self service till. While I was scanning, someone else's toddler sat on my bag area, and I got the "unexpected item in bagging area" alert and had to get the supervisor to reset it.

I think I've got an invisible sticker on my back saying "please annoy this lady" :rotfl:
Here I go again on my own....

    .... I hate them!

My attitude is if I wanted a job scanning goods at Tesco I would apply for a job - may not get accepted though because I doubt I could manage to be as sullen as the assistant who carries on her conversation with her colleague as she resets the machine - avoid them at all costs in Langport Somerset.
