Thanks for trying to improve things Martin but this one really doesnt work on the comps site. You really do need the Visible lines to separate stuff. Grey lines in pale green and beigy pink is so hard on my ageing eyes. Pastels are lovely but not when youre reading hun. But then youre still young with good vision, so things will always look brighter and sweeter to you, sweety, just like my Dear son. Contrast is the need, so the likes of me and yer mum can distinguish different bits.

As suggested by someone I tipped my laptop screen just slightly further back and could then see the pale pink/yellow in quotes and behind the avatars and it is an improvement but with my screen straight on it was very white and with no lines between the posts did make for difficult reading.

The colours improved with the screen tipping but the more you tip the less defined the text becomes,

i like the suggestion of removing the bar down the right hand side or maybe we could have a little "hide" button on it

i think its avvys and signatures that make it looked cluttered but I certainly don't want them removed as a defult!!

the colours were IMHO far too pale and on a personal note why green, yellow and grey?? I like blue, turquoise, purple - much prettier :D

Having had a look at an alternative, could you please look again now and tell us if there was anything that the experimental scheme had over the current one? We feel that the main Foruim page is too crowded with the heavy borders, for example and the newer look opened up the page a great deal. However, the changes didn;t work quite as well on the post level.

    Any further comemnt is appreciated.

Personally I like the lines that border everything. Makes it neat and tidy.

Maybe an idea to make the main page less busy would be to have one bar that says (for example) Work & Benefits. Then that bar has a drop down box that contains Up your Income, Employment, Jobseeking and Training....etc etc We then have to choose which section we want to visit so that not everything is open all the time.
(That probably involves major work...I don't know...ignore me if its a ridiculous suggestion)

The only thing I wouldn't mind keeping from the experimental scheme is the coloured box when you quote someone.

this whole website looks like it was made in teh 90's and hasn't progressed.. so any change IMO as a web designer will always help.. but it'll take time to get used to...

the forums look old, and tired, the main pages, and the menu at the top looks old and tired too... but this is just my opinion

Marky Moo You are an expert on what Msers want then. MSE techie guys are Old Fashioned so they should upgrade to your specs then!!!!!!!!, My philosophy is, if its not broke and dont need fixing why do geeks like you want to ffin change it. This is a brilliant site and works excellently without comments from so called or self promoting experts.

    What an un-called for post.

Functional or not, the site *IS* very dated.

Having just noticed it, I like the pastel ambience to it, gives off a neutral, clear and not to razzle dazzle feel to it. Its good to give the old site a good "spring clean" now and again ;) keep it up team.
