Why can't we use the html site for these promotions anymore? The flash one favours those who have faster internet connections:mad:
The connection I was using yesterday was a high-speed commercial one - it didn't do me any good though, and it crashed out quite spectacularly in the first seconds. Oh - and the PC (yuk) was up to scratch too.
Two separate browsers, constant refreshing - no good. Your particular connection either talks to Hoxton's site or not ... no half measures it seems.
As many have said - win some, lose some.Under no circumstances may any part of my postings be used, quoted, repeated, transferred or published by any third party in ANY medium outside of this website without express written permission. Thank you.0 -
Free Parking On The Weekend

If anyone is going on the weekend you can get free roadside parking during the weekend near the hotel. The parking meters don't charge you after lunchtime on Saturday and the area is very quiet on the weekend since it is part of the Financial District of London so you're bound to find a park.
Best streets for parking are Wilson St, Christopher St, Scrutton St and Clifton St. The hotel is just a 5 minute walk north from there on Great Eastern Street (a very busy road). You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.0 -
I feel the critical comments of posters on this thread detract from the purpose of MSE. It is to help people save money and in particular expose any company that overcharges. The Hoxton £1 offer is an excellent advertising idea. There will always be problems with this type scheme on the internet, which way to log onto site, clearing cache etc. What about those who cannot afford an internet connection. I would be far happier if the rooms were given away through charitable agencies. This would be better publicity for a hotel. Then MSE could concentrate on helping everybody saving money (eg best mobile, energy supplier, bank, current vouchers etc) by encouraging generally lower prices rather than schemes were a fraction of 1% benefit, in order to advertise a particular company.0

All very worthy but as you say it's an advertising initiative primarily targetted at the hotels customer demograph. I'm genuinlly interested in how you mean "I would be far happier if the rooms were given away through charitable agencies".
No one was being unduly critical, the general consensus amongst posters who failed to get rooms was Cest la vie and very positive to those who were succesful by congratulating them and offering other money saving advice during their stay in London. People did slightly get tired when posters demonstrate sour grapes and start posting messages slagging off the hotel and generally going "it's not fair I didn't get a room". I could understand if this was for something critical BUT this was for a cheap hotel room - not exactly a sink or swim scenario.
MSE has many forums that reflect all aspects of Money saving, some more serious and some more frivolous, so I think it does an admirable job in catering for a broad spectrum of people and their individual requirements.0 -

This exactly. I have tried each time to get a room and haven't been successful but am genuinely pleased for the people who managed to get a room. I will just keep trying and not bring any sour grapes about the owners etc into the thread.0 -
It's the luck of the draw simple as really. I think the main thing is that you need to have an account ready to go with a card already registered and hope that someone diesn't get to the submit order button first as it will take your room
