I have 12 stone of Neapolitan Mastiff and I can assure you that no collar or harness works if he wants to pull. The only way I dealt with pulling when he was young was by making it an unattractive thing for him to do and I did that by immediately stopping, turning round and walking in the other direction every time he pulled. He found that incredibly frustrating because he was then getting further away from the thing he was so eager to get close to. I'd also mix up that technique with making him sit instead. Neos are quick learners and it certainly didn't take him long to realise that to get to where he wanted to go, he needed to walk calmly and not pull.

I can't stand the man, all you need to do is have a look at you tube to see how bad he is, anyone remember shadow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh9YOyM2TAk. In his 100th episode one of his workers admitted that they get the dogs they are going to work with agitated before Milan comes in to work his ( cough cough ) magic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPRAQXOAMz0.

So presumbably you think dogs that are aggresive towards their owners/other dogs or other such problem dog should be allowed to continue because they're "misunderstood" or some such?

And to people who let their dogs run wild in the park: no, it not hilarious when your dog sticks his face in my lunch box when sitting on a bench or shoves his nose into our orifices when we're lying on the grass. rolleyes.gif

I don't see that idea implied in Kinski's post at all. I don't support the majority of CM's methods (I will admit that he spouts the odd bit that makes sense) but that doesn't mean I think aggression should be ignored/allowed - just dealt with using different methods.

I believe that a lot of aggressive behaviour is caused through fear so I don't believe that harsh methods work - they create more fear which may surpress an aggressive behaviour temporarily but I don't think you can scare a dog into not being scared any more - you simply scare it into not showing its fear, until it eventually reaches breaking point and may be even more aggressive than it previously was.

Of course I don't I can't see where I said that at all if I have please show me, I have a dog aggressive dog ( fear aggression ) and it's not fun to walk him but there is no way I would ever jab him with my foot, hang him from his lead, pin him to the ground til he shuts down or send some @rse in to wind him up before I would let a trainer near him. I deal with Arran with much gentler methods than that, he gets loads of praise when he behaves around dogs that are jumping on him and getting in his face because idiot owners can't/won't keep them under control, he also gets treats and or a toy. I also have a Bichon that hates men, she came from a puppy farm and it terrified of men and she constantly goes for my son, again there is no way I would use that idiots methods on her. None of my dogs has ever stuck their faces in someone's lunch box and I would never allow it, again I don't need to use outdated cruel methods to prevent them from doing that, I find liver cake works over soggy sarnies every time. If you want to use his methods on your dogs then I wish both you and especially your dogs luck.
