I find a harness works for dogs that love to pull. I have a rescue that was never trained to lead and he would pull me off my feet if I didnt have him in his harness. He still tries to pull at the start of a walk but soon gives up and walks nicely when he realises hes not getting anywhere

Having had a shufti around the internet I can find no evidence that any dog owner has complained about Cesar's methods, only dog trainers with a different methodology. .....

Admiration for CM is directly proportionate to your understanding of dogs and dog behaviour and being able to read a dog.
I have great understanding. I foster for a rescue and train a lot of their dogs for them before they are rehomed. Just because I like CM doesn't mean I don't know anything about dogs. I can say the same for those who hate him.0 -

how can that be true?
What that he loves dogs? Yes it is true.0 -
In this case, the owner's personal dog trainer was in charge of the dog the whole time, but using Millan's facilities.0 -
Well done Georgina.
I've no objection to reading about products to help, as long as passed by Martin first. To lie about it though, tu tut.
Don't you love the pics on that very professional website? 1st one: Dog on long leash straining to get at what? We don't know as off camera.
2nd pic: Dog on very short leash, itching to get into same position as 1st pic. very funny.
I do hope CM doesn't have a Patent on his invention, Americans can be highly litigious.0 -
I am not a fan of choke chains *at all* in any form, and am still a little wary of Cesar Milan. I have spent my entire life around dogs, and for the last 12 years or so my mother was a dogsitter, so we'd average about 7 in the house at a time. end result = lots of exposure to different dogs, which, for me at least, was ace
.
anyhow, if you're looking for a decent dog trainer, I'd hands down recommend Ian Dunbar. I've read some of his books, and seen him in person and he's the only trainer who has ever truly impressed me.
I still remember one story he told about dogs that pull. One of his dogs at the time (this was a good few years ago now) was a Siberian Husky. He said he was getting frustrated with the dog always trying to pull when on the lead, until it dawned on him - why not use it to his advantage? To cut a long story short, he trained the dog to walk at heel, but also had a command to ask the dog to pull on the lead. It worked well for the dog, as it wasn't constantly curtailing it's natural instincts, and worked well for Ian as if he ever had to walk up a steep hill, one word from him and the dog would drag him up. lol.
Anyhow, I really recommend googling and seeing what you can come up with - I found the following site really quickly. Just had a quick glance, but seems pretty decent and gives you some background.

I have just purchased two of these collars. As a dog walker I come across many dogs and most of them will not walk nicely on the lead, these collars will make my job a lot easier. They certainly do the job.0
