  • Fair point but I can't remember, I suppose I could always ring my supplier and ask!

I just wanted a second opinion as my initial reaction was....what???!!!
  • We've used 1330 litres since 9 November.

Depends on the size of your mansion (we're 4 bed detached) and the crapness of your insulation (half Victorian, the rest even older - no cavities to insulate). In an average year we use about 3500.

Thats around 10 - 12? weeks - in some of the coldest weather we have experienced in years and seeing as we can get through 900 ltrs in 8 weeks during a normal winter ( if I dont take control of the switch) it dont seem excessive to me

The price of home heating oil seems to be on the rise at the moment; 900l went from £352 to £367 with Bangor fuels in the space of a few days!

Might be time to fill up the tank?
    Regards, Robin.

I ordered oil from maxol this week .they quoted £379 for 900 litres .
I said Bangor fuels where £352 ,they droped the price to £356 and included 4 cinema tickets .I know Maxol are not the cheapest but I needed a deliver via the front door and maxol do that .

I always price match but use maxol because they can state a day when they are going to deliver so I can leave the back gate open and the dog inside to allow access to the oil tank.
Never had a problem - and I got the 2 cinema tickets too!

Usage will depend on how large/well insulated your mansion is. In that period we used 775L (4 bed house largely single skin brick - probs pretty poor in the insulation race.) A year ago we used 735L in that period and the year before 741L.

So; It has been cold, but I'm not sure it's made a vast difference to our real usage.

Would gas be cheaper? Do the sums - somwhere on the MSE forums - a member offered the calorific value for oil and a how-to guide on the calculation.

£50 a week? How often do you run it? And what size of property are you in?!
