I was not aware of that. If its for use as domestic heating only, surely its still only 5% VAT
'Boiler juice' computer is still only 5% vat for any amount as long as its for 'Domestic' use0 -
Your mad getting any more than 2000 litres. The VAT rate increases to 15% after 2000. So therefore you will be paying 5% Vat on 1~2000 Litres and 15% on any amount above this. Found this out at work when we done the same.
Q - What is the VAT on heating oil?
A - Domestic customers buying heating oil are charged VAT at just 5%, regardless of the quantity.

Dont believe everything you read on the net unless its from an official source. Both of us were wrong on this one. The actual amount is 2300 Litres.
a supply of not more than 2,300 litres of fuel oil, gas oil or kerosene;
Look at 5. (f) under the Supplies deemed to be for domestic use section.

Something to do with the VAT Act 1994.0 -

Ok,trying to clarify (as I cant see oil companies telling customers the wrong VAT amount) I just rang Customs and excise and according to them, referring to public notice 701/19 paragraph 6.1, that as long as it is deemed for domestic use or by a registered charity for non business use, no matter how much you order is taxed at the lower rate.
Well thats what the lovely scots man at the end of the line defined the guidence as0 -
