BT Price Increases from 1/4/2009

  • It's not the best time for BT to increase prices and get their people on here telling us it's a bit of a bargain, really. BT and bargain shouldn't be contained anywhere in the same sentence and I'm conscious of the fact I've done it twice now, lol. We are in a recession the like of which we haven't seen for 60 years, consumer goods are falling in price daily. Typical BT. Thickos. The best time to put up prices would have been during the 'boom'. But they are desparate, their share price is falling through the floor but continue to pay their dividends as if everything was hunky dory. Where is the money going to come from to finance all the infrastructure improvements they need? The loyal customer, I guess. Not the shareholders.

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??
  • I've today received the latest issue of the Thomson local directory for our area. At the top of every page is written:
Calls from BT to 084 numbers cost up to 4p per min (ppm) 087 cost up to 8ppm. A 3ppm (sic) call set up fee applies from residential numbers, mobiles and other providers may vary
    Is any of this correct?

I think it is great that they are now giving 0845/0870 number in with your calling plan. BT will lose 24 million in revenue from these calls.BT is the first company in the UK to do this.

No they won't lose 24 million revenue because companies are changing to 0844 and 0871 numbers. Sky already have an 0844 number. It's a con to mask the real price increases. Line rental itself is a 10% inceease!
  • Just got my bill which I actually read (yikes! I know that is a terrible thing to fess up to).. anyway, I was a bit surprised by the 'other fees' of 'no duration' at a cost of £4.55 with 'no further detail' available. After a 10 minute call to BT I was told that the cost is for 0844 numbers of which we had £2.31 worth. Big old apology from the operator who said that the difference would be credited to our bill and she had no idea how this happened. Can they really add a cost to a bill saying 'no further detail' available???

Mmmm... so, can't help thinking a) this could be a profitable little ruse by BT
    b) I now have to add up all our calls because the old bill calculator is seriously flawed.

Could be a ruse as several people mentioned errors in bills for 12 month unlimited evening weekend plan, where they have recently changed rental dates, more credits should be applied.

Normally a company is limited to the amount it can raise charges while you are in contract otherwise they could double them and you would still be stuck. The normal figure is more than inflation.

Financial companies yes, but telecoms no. The price are set by the competition in the industry and closely monitored by Ofcom. There is no limits set but if the increases were unfair, then Ofcom would request that they are reviewed and reduced. Cancellation charges will apply.

BT... good customer service? Your having a lauch arnt you, seriously? Do you honestly believe this, or is that you work for BT, and seeing all these customers leaving, makes you worried for your job in this tough economic climate?

Far from it mate. There would be more chance of you going to BT as a Customer than of me losing a job anytime soon.

  • Um inflation is rapidly falling, petrol has fallen loads, cars are cheaper. To justify the BT price increases using this is wrong. I'm not happy BT have one of their employees on the forum trying to drum up a bit of sympathy for the pathetic rip off merchants who have no idea of customer service.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Live with IT!! Plus, can someone please tell me where I have ever said I was an employee of BT's on this fourm??? I didnt!!!

Do you not realise that there are people out there who RESEARCH the markets and therefore may know a bit about a companies products or service. I could talk about some banks internal process, policies, prices etc in the same fashion, or do I work for them all?? :rotfl:
