£1 more for line rental thats a very large increase I seem to recall a couple of years back the were allowed to do this

I think I may as well get line rental from my phone provider as its cheaper
  • Reason for the 'sneaky' increases are very probably because BT are in deep doodoo at the moment.

IoooNo adds: 'As long as the management team sort out the mess (and this is a step in the right direction) the longer term looks sound. The fact that the divi is remaining unaffected is a big plus.'

But Tejo counters: 'Year after year BT reports dismal results and with every change in management we think things will get better but they do not. Having blown goodness knows how many hundreds of millions of pounds of share buybacks at high prices, the company will have to cut its dividend one day to finance replacement capital expenditure let alone growth.'
    Call me Carmine....

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??
  • Price is not everything! Would you prefer to pay less and when you have a fault on the line call your SP and them not knowing what to do, or paying extra and calling to get expereinced advice, information on how to check your equipment and process the fault as fast as possible?

Just bear in mind also, BT is increasing their prices, but watch this space a see how many others will do it within the next 2/3 months also. I seem to remember that when BT lowered their price, major competition also lowered it. When BT increased call set up fee previously, other major SP's done it. BT takes the lead on change, but the sheep follow.

So okay, get angry with BT, leave and go to another provider and sign into a contract with them and watch them do the same. Only difference is your in a new contract that you cant get out of and in the long run the price might be more expensive.

    Speculation - Unsupported comment!!
I dont see how they are "Sneaky" increases as the increases that will effect the majority of people are not been made until April. That 3 months notice tbh.

It will increase from £10.27 to £11.25 per month.

Then in Jan 2010 it will go from £11.25 to £11.50 when VAT goes back up to 17.5%

Its hard to predict the future, but that would be the general course of action. Who knows, next year if the economy is back to normal, the price might be down.

I presume that the increase as it is vastly more than inflation may give me the opportunity to terminate my BT contract early and move the number to another supplier.

I use talk talk (onetel) for CPS and BT line rental which is £2 less than BT when new charges assuming talk talk dont up prices. I assume that if I dont have any issues with my CP provider/line rental if I jump ship at any time
  • I wouldn't trust BT as far as I could throw them.

Why can't they go bust so we can get rid of them ?????? :j

Everyone hates them and that's been true for the last forty years as far as I can remember.

Aren't you a lovely person wishing 100,000 people out of a job as well as the collapse of the fixedline and broadband network.
If saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.
