I have just discovered that BT's latest calling plan that includes 'free' 0870 and 0845 calls does not include 0871 and 0844 numbers!! Apart from making money anyone know why 0870 and not 0871 etc.?
0871 is classed as special service. Can be hospital bedside phones, internet service provider and other special services like that...* INFORMER *Life is too short for serial complainers. It will increase from £10.27 to £11.25 per month.* INFORMER *Life is too short for serial complainers. Got a problem? Get it sorted and get over it!Disclaimer: Any comments made by me are those of my own and may not be those of my employer or colleagues.0 -
I can't believe they are increasing the line rental, what a big fat rip off!!
It's about time one of the regulatory bodies stepped in and forced them to reduce the line rental charges, they take the pi$$ to be honest!!
Line Rental has decreased over the years. For many years BT was not allowed to reduce it's line rental below a set rate to allow newer companies build a customer base that offered competition. These other service providers did not have such a requirement placed on them.
Tbh, BT are the first to make the move. With the current climate, the price of providing any type of service has increased in price. Have a look around. The price of food in shops, the price of cars etc etc...Why is it that this goes unnoticed but once BT makes a change they are ripping people off??* INFORMER *Life is too short for serial complainers. Standard line rental price increases to £12.50 a month (from £11.50). (Already posted about).
Discount for Paperfree billing paid by direct debit has also increase from £1.23 to £1.25.
The cost of UK calls made during the daytime increase by 0.59 pence per minute to 4.50 pence per minute.
Correction: Call price changing from 3.91 pence per minute to 4.5 pence per minute. An increase of 0.59 pence per minute.
The price of the chargeable Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan increases from £2.65 to £2.95 per month.
Special offer for those customer that have evening and weekend calls at no extra cost means that this change does not effect them as they credit for the offer will also increase from £2.65 to £2.95 p/m.
The price of the Unlimited Anytime Plan with a 12 month renewable contract will increase by 10p per month on 1 April, from £4.85 per month to £4.95 per month. The full price of this plan (without a contract) will increase from £5.82 to £5.95 on 1 April.
Again, the offer means that cust on the special offer still pay £1 less per month. An increase of 10p ios not bad tbh.
The monthly charge for each individual calling feature is increasing by 79p per month to £2.50 per month.
Correction: Price increasing from £1.75 to £2.50 per month.
Friends and Family scheme to Geographical Numbers and one 0845 Number abolished.(New schemes for mobile and intl numbers, chargeable in some cases).
Are friends and family really any use anymore. Sure you can only add local, national and limited mobile numbers to the list. Sure with the inclusive calls within your package, you no longer get the "BIG" benefits from this out of date service.
Plus the minimum call charge went up to 8p on 16/1/2008. (already posted about)
Correction: Call set up fee increase to 8p. Again if you are making calls within your package, this does not apply. If you are making alot of calls outside your package, your on the wrong package tbh.

Actually, because BT Openreach and BT Retail, are both owned by the same group, it is my opinion that there is an obvious and flawwed conflict of interest. Every company who wishes to use the only national telephone network is at the mercy of the group. We all know how Openreach bow down to BT Retail requests for DSL activations etc, yet "go slow" and delay requests from major competitors such as Sky, just because they tearing BT Retail's customer base to pieces by offering better services at fairer pricing. It certainly would'nt be the first time I have heard of a customer trying to move to a competing ISP and the ISP having problems with BT Openreach enabling the connection for weeks... only for the customer to telephone BT Retail and be advised if they moved to BT, they could have it activated within a few days guaranteed.
Ofcom say a lot of things, and make a lot of comments, but in reality are very slow and do very little to try and keep them both in line.
If Tesco controlled the entire UK food distribution network, and Morrisons, Asda, Sainsbury, Waitrose and Somerfield etc, were all at the mercy of them, with a few select companies like Aldi and Lidl representing Virgin Media, do you think it would be fair to the rest of the industry, and do you think Tesco would not have an interest to make life hard for the rest of the companies to profit?
Personally, I feel the UK telephone network should become state-owned, and then BT can continue to trade as they do through BT Retail, and then there would be little foul play, and considering they want to use public money every time they want to upgrade the network, yet post hundreds millions of pounds worth of profit each and every year, we may as well own it, it would return better value for money than allowing them to use public money to upgrade their network, and then make excessive private profits off the back of public investment.
Wise up would you. Firstly, RBS, Natwest & Ulsterbank are all part of the RBS Group. They also have a conflict of interest. But they trade sepreately. If you understood anything about business you would under the method a regulation behind "Group PLC" businesses, ie BT Group PLC, RBC Group PLC etc etc.
Secondly, the reason that BT Retail get things done with Openreach and Wholesale is because they fight for it. We go to Ofcom and report when there are barriers in our way for helping the customers. We do not use any method of urging requests that other service providers can not use. They reason they do not use it is because they normally have to pay!! People comment on situation they dont know or understand. Visit www.openreach.co.uk and read their terms and conditions. This applies to all service providers and they can all get done what is in their for the cost that is in their but BT are the only ones that help out customers.
Thirdly, your comment " feel the UK telephone network should become state-owned"...I dont know what age you are, but if you think back to when it was state owned, how much did you pay?? Let me tell you it was alot more than what it is today and you didnt get as much for your money. It is competition that has driven price down over the years. Furthermore, it was BT Retail that submitted a report to Ofcom to deregulate the industry to allow a better playing feild for all provider to play with the same foot. Again, this was to ensure that the industry remained competitive and prices were value for money. If it referred back to state owned, compitors are removed and therefore the price is set and that is it. It can not be compared against anything else.
Think about it folks. I have responded to you MattLFC but this is for everyone, so that they can take their heads out of the clouds and see the facts!!* INFORMER *Life is too short for serial complainers. Got a problem? With inflation at nearly zero ,and given the current economic crisis is it any wonder that people think that its a rip off, when BT increase the price of services by up to 40% EG (Calling Features).0 -

Some people yes, other people no. What gets me is that people talk for everyone else on here. Not everyone thinks it is a rip off. I personally think the price of cars is a rip...the price of heating oil a month ago was a rip off, the price of petrol a month ago was a rip off, but these are all things that fall with the rate of inflation...The price of providing a telecoms service is not directly effected by this.* INFORMER *Life is too short for serial complainers. In regards to calling features, it's worth noting that there hasn't been a price increase in years. Although 40% is a bit of a jump.If saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.0

Are you (and everyone else whinging) blind? Have you not read any of the other threads in this forum? If customers are going around making their calls through other companies or 1280ing back to receive other discount what else can you expect? This is what you all wanted. Accept the consequences of your actions and stop pretending you all have sympathy for those who pay for your mean-spiritedness.0
