I suppose they may, however, say that as Empire Direct will not now be paying their charges, their bill for repair of your set must be paid by you before its return, as the warranty no longer exists.

Unlikely they could legitimately do that. Assuming Empire Direct instructed them, then their contract is with Empire Direct, not with you. They could only seek reimbirsement from you if you agree to a contract. e.g. tell them you will pay for a repair, or signed something agreeing that you will cover costs in the event of a default.
  • Hi, firstly my heart goes out to the employees of empire directm and anyone effected by the current situation in the uk.
However, would anyone be able to help us. we ordered a fridge freezer from empire direct in merry hill on new years eve, we paid cash because it was a gift from relatives for xmas. We also purchased a lcd tv. Fridge freezer cost £350, tv cost £200. We paid £500 cash and about £60 on my bank card. We took the tv away and the fridge freezer was going to take up to 3 weeks. We were expecting a phone call about now, we were obviously dissapointed when we heard of the news we werent going to get the fridge/freezer, but even more outraged when we spoke to hotpoint direct and they confirmed the goods were never ordered in the first place, this was yesterday!
Firstly will i ever see my hard earned cash again, and secondly the tv has a small fault which may need seeing to....do i contact lg direct. Your comments would really go a long way and maybe ease the frustration we feel. Thanks.
  • For the TV it should be covered by manufacturer, so you need to contact them yes.

For the fridge, you may find your all out of luck having paid cash, you might be able to get the £60 back via your bank if you contact them, and for the rest you will need to make a claim with the administrators, but do not hold out much hope.

  • Thanks for the quick reply, i paid the extra £60 with my bank card, it wasnt my credit card, does this make a difference, and do i go to lloyds to try and get it back. Thanks.
  • No harm in asking although there is less chance with a bank card, I only know about credit cards.

  • Ta for that, whos next in line? Someone told me the other day that argos, pc world, currys and b and q are wobbling slightly. One thing ive learnt from this is to always get the goods immediately when you pay for them, wont be ordering anymore otherwise you get your fingers burnt. ta.
  • Or make sure you pay with a credit card for the full amount as then you are protected by your card provider.

I buy everything thats for delivery or online with a Goldfish card as I know I can then reclaim monies in this type of situation, also earn points which get me ~ £200 a year of shopping vouchers :)

  • actually I think you only need to pay for £100 on a CC (as per MSE guide) but still get full protection.
I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing! ;)
    Quidco and Topcashback, £4,569
    Shopandscan, £2,840
    Tesco Double The Difference, £2,700
    Thomson EU261/04 Claim, £1,700
    British Airways EU261/04 Claim, EUR1200
  • I got 2 years left warranty on my tv lcd. Now, beacause i paid with my credit card, does the credit card company suppose to honour the warranty left should I need any service??? anyone knows?? Thank You:confused:

The warranty will still be with the manufacturer. Check your small print. If Empire Direct did them, extended warranties don't count though - but even if they did check the warranty terms as it may be through another company that didn't go into administration, so contact them directly. As its a year ago, they might have paid for yours!
