  • Interesting, I guess there IS potential to chargeback the extra card amount, if you can get confirmation that the features it came with will not be honoured in any way (which I am sure they won't).

Very sad news for yet more people - redundancies and little hope of another job in the near future.
  • I'm one of the unlucky people who have lost their jobs because of all this. Just to let everyone know, Empire Directors(who shall remain nameless)who have known about this happening for weeks, have still encouraged us,as staff, to take as much money from the "customer" as possible.Even today at work, before we were shut down in a matter of minutes(with no communication at all) allowed us to take hundreds of pounds in cash from people for deliveries that were never going to happen, without worry. i hope they feel as guilty as i do, but i doubt it!

exempireemployee you have my sympathy at this difficult time
  • exempireemployee - sorry that you find yourself in this difficult situation in an equally difficult time.

I purchased a Panasonic TX-32LXD700 LCD TV from Empire Direct in January 2008. Apart from its price, the 5 year extended warranty was why I decided to purchase from them. Last week, I noticed that a backlight bleed was getting progressively worse on the TV, so I contacted Empire Direct to report the issue. An engineer visited me at home last Wednesday, told me that he'd need to take the TV away to Yorkshire Multimedia Services for inspection. I asked if it would be possible to allow me some time to find a substitute TV over the weekend before the TV was taken. He gave me his mobile and told me to give him a call once I was ready for him to take the TV. After hearing of the administration fiasco today, that was probably the best decision I made last week! Who knows, I may not have even seen my TV ever again. Although I'm not pleased with having a faulty TV and a warranty that's probably not worth anything now, at least I can still make my own arrangements. I gave the engineer a call this evening, and told him that I was sorry to hear of what's happened today and wished him all the best.
  • nope, worth nothing unfortunately. but again.............they always knew this, they have never had anything in place to cover these bogus warranties. one engineer in derby who also delivered and installed, and with all respect to him, was not an engineer by any stretch of the imagination. this same man was the first to go, this morning, with the company owing him £27.5k
one reason i bought from john lewis / amazon instead
personally i wouldnt buy from anywhere else unless there is a manufacturers backed warranty with it

unless you have a manufacturers warranty on your product, you can kiss ur edextra warranty bye bye (with regret)
  • I promise you, they won't honour anything................they would'nt have done if they were still running as a company. the whole "EDExtra scheme" was a joke, as i've previousy mentioned in this forum, they had one "engineer" in Derby who also was a delivery driver all day long(but not an engineer at all!) so no-one would've had any joy with the 3 year warranty. No disrespect mate you were brilliant. all the best Paul

quote=elliotj;discussion/1428717]Sorry, not a grabbit but if you have placed an order and received it then I suggest that you get in touch with the administrators ASAP:

BBC gave the number as 0871 472 900 but the website says 0871 472 9000.

If you were lucky enough to pay on a credit card then you can also claim through your card company.

Lucky for me I havn't ordered anything from them since Xmas.

  • For anybody in the Midlands area that's had their TV taken by an Empire Direct engineer for repair in recent weeks, it'll almost certainly be at Yorkshire Multimedia Services, Unit 3, Factory Street, Bradford, BD4 9NW. Tel: 01274688877. Hopefully this information can help somebody retrieve theirs.
