  • Thanks Joyful. I will do that.

I'm assuming the meter serial number should be different from BG to my new supplier? What happens if they are the same??

    Thanks

They should be the same, unless your meter has been changed. Check your bills or check with the supplier if your meter serial number is different this is most likely where the problem is.

Sorry, but this sounds like the oldest scam in the book where someone tries to avoid paying their debts.

Says you pal. Quick to jump to conclusions aren't you? :naughty:

I switched it over to my name to help out my mother and because BG were refusing for her to switch energy suppliers with fairer tariffs.

While the switch over was processing, the electricity was still under my mothers name after the bankruptcy and it was around £200 used during that time, which I know she is liable to pay and it WILL be paid.

Hardly a scam there, get your facts straight before assuming. I think an apology is due from you don't you?

We're not out there to cheat the system, just doing what was best for my mother at the time... I expect you would of done the same.
  • Sorry I don't understand this.

So the serials should be different yes? Or the same? What does this actually meen? Nothing has been changed btw

The meter serial number should be the same for both suppliers if you are still using the same meter. This means if supplier A billed to read of 2000 then supplier B will start at 2000. This number will normally be found under the barcode on the meter.

The Meter Point Administration Number ( MPAN) belongs to the property. Sometimes Suppliers think they have taken over the MPAN for house number 1 when they have taken over 1a. This will show up if both your bills have a different MPAN .

You need to check this quickly as BG will be within their rights to take action if they do still supply.

Is the account - which is now in your name - actually with the new supplier? i.e. has the switch gone through?

As you have stated BG would have refused to allow the switch when the account was in your mother's name because of the debt.

You took over the account to 'bypass' that restriction.

It seems to me that when you took over the account, BG have assumed(rightly or wrongly) that you have taken over that debt.

To be quite honest I can totally see BG's point. If I were to run up huge Utility bills in my name, I shouldn't be able to pass the accounts to my wife, brother, daughter, etc and leave the debt with myself.

I really don't know the legal position on this, but it seems to me that BG have the moral high ground.

If your 'system' was not challenged, everyone who ran into debt would do the same.

I think what has happened is his mum's account is still open and running which is why he is getting disconnection notices. And Swalec have taken over the wrong supply point which is why the switch was allowed.

You need to check the meter serial numbers with the Swalec bills and the British Gas bills.

Not jumping to any conclusions. Just telling you it's the oldest scam in the book that the unscupulous try to avoid paying their debts.

You've just admitted you've pulled it too. The reason BG wouldn't allow your mother to switch suppliers would have been because she owed them money.

Stop bleating on about how the money will be paid, and just pay it!
