British Gas Threats (Please Help)

Right, I try to explain it again.
Me, the son, is the current policy holder of the electricity in this property and I am with a completly different energy supplier.
My mother, the previous policy holder of this property went bankrupt not so long ago.
Now, BG are threatening to CUT my MOTHERS supply OFF - Even though she hasn't even got a SUPPLY with them. I, ME, the son is paying the electric under my name with a new supplier.0 -

It would seem that you will not be disconnected because you are now responsible for the account but that you may have to go to court to explain this.
I was merely pointing out that if your mother negotiated settling the debt, BG wouldn't be taking her to court. And that would solve your problem of the threat of disconnection.
Yeah, sorry bad morning. Yes, my mother has tried settling it, she is going to pay them and she has kept telling them this over and over and over again, yet they said they will cut it off and the threatening letters keep coming.0 -
I think your question was answered back in post #5.0

Yes, but that's not the same as paying it. She needs to send some money and offer regular payments. The letters that keep coming will continue to be spewed out by a computer if she doesn't do this.
Even if they can't disconnect, you won't stop the paper chain until a payment plan is arranged.0 -
HI,
i would ask them to go to MPAS online and check the supply point ID and the date of ownership.
Then insist they lodge a low level complaint as you are dissatisfied with their level of service (you can do this even though you are not supplied by them), if they fail to resolve the issue within 6 weeks it goes to stalemate and the energy onbudsman takes up the case (BG are charged £350 for this even if they win so they generally resolve). If they ask you to call a complaints line refuse, all low level complaints have to be logged at the customers request. With the low level complaint ask for a manager call back and refuse the csa's offer of help, they have to call back within 24 hours.
As you pointed out this is not your debt so they cannot disconnect you for this. The no longer hold any ownership, and you could rightfully go to another supplier as this wasnt your debt.
Once you have done this let us know how you have got on.0 -
Thank you all for the advice, sorry if I sounded a bit bitey.
Will take your advice follows, see what happens.
Thank You0 -
The only reason BG will be sending the letters re locksmiths etc is if the computer still thinks BG supply. As advised above get your meter serial number and your bill from new suppliers. This will give your MPAN number. Then check with BG that the info on their systems is the same. They can then check with MPAS on line which gives dates that MPAN changes supplier.
Re the debt from your Mother. They should give her 3 months to pay from the date of the bill in the call centre. If she cannot do this it will progress to the next step where they may allow a longer period based on her finances. I always advise someone to pay whatever they can afford so that when it goes to the next step they can see an effort has been made.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -

Please re-read my posts. I am not entitled to pay my mothers debts.
And surely they cannot switch MY supply off, I do not owe BG a penny.
Sorry that was just general advice for anyone regarding suppliers and disconnection threats."Self trained industry expert who has worked in Electricty Distribution, Electricity & Gas Supply and currently works as an independent consultant in industry processes to particapants in the industry" :eek:0 -
Sorry, but this sounds like the oldest scam in the book where someone tries to avoid paying their debts.
How exactly did the account get changed from being in the name of your mum supplied by BG with an outstanding debt to that in your name supplied by a different supplier?
How did your mum have a credit meter when she was a declared bankrupt? Or was this a PPM that caused the debt?
Were you living at the property when your mum was the account holder? ... and does your mum live there now you are the account holder?
Sorry, but I doubt BG won't be fobbed off by your family's attempt to evade the debt ... and I doubt a court will either.
Do what you said would happen in the first line of your post#3 and there will be no more problems"Now to trolling as a concept. ....
