"what the hell were you buying for £200?, i note you've not made any contributions for pricing errors, are we missing somethings"

He/she could be going to visit their other local stores today before posting the missprice item, either way i too am curious as to what it was.:)
  • yes im intrigued, what did you buy for 200.00.however its not really anybodies buisness or do we have to post our receipts on here aswell.(just to satisfy tose who think they may be missing out)
  • Hi, just come back from my local Tosco, I did an average shop and picked up some mars, at cs the nasty girl (I mean rude, awkward, unhelpful) would only refund the difference she called for the manager when I said look at the policy She stated that the policy had changed and only the difference would be given . the manager started his introduction with you have been spoken to before about refunds, no I have not! I said, you are on video I have seen it he told me, he refused to honour the policy and told me to go to trading standards if I was not happy. (First thing Monday) he pointed out that I had had refunds in the past and the way I shop I knew what I would be overcharged.
I told him to keep the money as I was not happy,
Put it in the charity box he told cs

So I will take it further but need advice on my plan of action.
I will probably go to trading standards,
But I would rather take them to court myself if possible,

    Thanks for any help

In my experience, Trading Standards will only do anything if they can catch Tesco actually overcharging people.

Contact them by all means, but don't expect much.

However, contact head office and tell them what happened. I also assume that you feel the manager abused your good nature and that was he said in open conversation and within earshot of others was a slur on your character.

It's also worth making the point that they are in breach of the Price Marking Order 2004 and have committed an offence under the Consumer Protection Act. Go back to the first page of this discussion to see links to the DTI site so you can get the relevant documents.

Taking them to court ought not be too expensive - I'm no lawyer, but I think the Small Claims Court may be able to deal with it.

MUCH BETTER though, would be to have a frank discussion with the store's general manager (this twerp was probably just a duty manager) and to make it clear that you'll take the story to the local paper, watchdog and the nationals.

Suddenly £1.18 refund begins to look like a bargain for Tesco.

However, if they do call your bluff, you really must be prepared to carry out any threats that you make or they'll walk all over you and everyone else until someone does stand up to them.

Incidentally, surely it makes no difference if you did pick these things up because you knew you'd be overcharged. What's the difference between suspecting or knowing and unsuspecting? It's still illegal, Mr T!

My first try at this overprice business was a dismal failure - lurpak spreadable (ordinary not light) came up as 98p on my bill with a label on the shelf of 97p they gave me a penny back - it hardly seemed worth the queue, maybe other people would have more luck.

Simply put you shouldn't accept it. There should be a sign at the service desk saying if you're charged more than the shelf edge label or on the product they will refund you and you get to keep the product. Just refer to that sign and say you should get a full refund. Don't accept the difference.

just came back from local tescos in rugby got mars bars for the fourth time this week ,got no room left in the cupboard now, and seen friend of mine who is manager in northants, she has said they have stopped this on the meats in northants by saying sels are a guide price only, told her it did not matter as the customer service sign still says if there is any difference in price you will refund the difference, but she said they had had orders from head office to put the signs up anyway.

See my earlier posts re Northampton Tesco.
TS have allready informed the store manager that these signs are misleading and should be removed which has not been done. TS are also informing HO.
If Tesco win this battle it will be goodbye to all R&R

Well, goodbye to kg priced overcharges....maybe. Still plenty of scope for overcharges on books, mars bars, computers, mobile phones.....etc etc as long as the R&R policy is still in place.

If the manager of the store at Northampton spent more time sorting out his store than "breaking the law" he would not have anyone come back for an R & R!
How can trays of valentines mugs be put on the shelf with a printed cardboard tray stating 94p and the SEL states 97p!
Some Cd's have been wrong for weeks!
The XBox posters have been wrong for well over a week. I got 5 games today at over £30. The Duty Manager has tried to wriggle out of the refund but he won't win! I "hold" the games until I contact HO tomorrow!

I think that if Tesco stop this policy then we will have scored :D I know this sounds peculiar but think of it this way, thousands of people read MSE, surely it has come to their attention that Tesco are determined to screw as much money and business out of the population as is humanly possible. People will now know there is no way of knowing whether the price you have paid is the right one and if it is wrong there is no way of getting your money back.

Hence a great deal of people no longer shopping at Tesco, tesco share prices dropping like a brick, All Tesco management panicking and finally learning that the consumer is king and not them. They are not the only supermarket, not the only shop in town. It's about time we voted with our feet and our purses and showed them where their huge profits are coming from.
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
