Hi, Has anyone else had problems using coupons this week, Just back from my local Mr T's and for the first time ever was not allowed to use coupons [somerfields]. Lady incharge of self scan check out appologised and said that they had instructions as from last Monday that no coupons from other retailers are now allowed, and that product coupons can only be used when purchasing relevant item. She was quite embarrased about it as I had already put £1 coupon through and had to void it. If I was paranoid I would say they are watching but this particualr lady is wonderful and has always let me use them in the past, so I am sure she is telling the truth. They must all be tighteneing up as had similar in Asda the other week, but they are now alright again.

The policy has always been that you can only use other companies coupons if you buy the product listed on the coupon. Otherwise you could just walk into somerfields say and pick up handfuls of coupons and bring them back to Tesco to get Large amounts off your shopping. There have been people abusing the self scan tills in this way BIGTIME (I'm not suggesting you were abusing them.. it doesn't sound like you were IMO).

Hi thanks for that I always ask if I can use coupons and there has been no problem with me using either Somerfields or Sainsbury's or ASDA coupons in the past either at self scan or checkout, in fact one TESCO had a big poster outside recently declaring thet WE ACCEPT ASDA COUPONS. Am honest enough to say that on a big shop I try to use as many coupons as allowed but as I said I always ask nicely first and accept with a smile when stopped. even a small amount off my bill really makes a huge difference over the year.

    Hmmm....

Just got back from my local store. Chicken drumsticks, big yellow sticker on the shelf saying reduced price from £2.49 per kg to £1.99 per kg. The packs were all mixed up - some at £1.99kg and some at £2.49...

Took 2 at £2.49, and went to CS and said the SEL stated the price as £1.99 per kg.

CS said new policy was (get this) the SEL was as INDICATION only of the price, because the actual price (for weighted items) was on the pack. So gist of this was - regardless of the fact that customer sees big special offer sticker stating reduced price and thinks "oooh, only £1.99 per kg, that's a good price", the customer HAS NOT been overcharged when he gets home and checks the shopping to find that bargain pack at £1.99 per kg was actually charged to him at £2.49 per kg, because the price for that actual pack is stated on the pack... so I guess we all have to walk round with a set of scales too, just to double check what we are being charged per kg, as you can't rely on those great big signs they put on the shelf!

Couldn't be bothered to argue this one, but that doesn't seem like a clear pricing policy to me, does it??

Oh, and as a side note - remember those great big signs stating the 6 packs of Mars were reduced from £1.18 to £1.05.... check the price now folks!!!

Report this to HO and Trading Standards if you get no joy. This seems to be a clear breach of the Price Marking Order 2004 and is probably in breach of the Consumer Protection Act.

They cannot advertise two prices and charge the higher of the two and then claim that the lower price is a mere indication. How the devil can a difference of nearly 50p per Kilo be an indication? If it is, what's to stop them saying that Cheddar Cheese is £.35p per tonne but we'll charge you £4.35 per kilo?

"Oh sorry sir, £.35 per tonne is just an indication of the price".

Utter garbage. They're trying it on because they are inept.

    DS games update:

Pac Pix - now scanning as per sticker = £19.94

Two others are still working though:
Goldeneye Rogue Agent still scanning £14.97 with sticker £14.94.
Project Rub scanning £29.99 with sticker £14.94.

Cashier was on the ball and spotted the overcharge when putting through. Just left them.
    MFW 2015 #41 = £20,515/£20,515
    MFW 2014 #41 = £26,100/£25,000
    MFW 2013 #41 = £10,000/£10,000
Original MF date = May 2036 - MF achieved on 15 June 2015

Maybe they wanted to remove the points from your card.

TBH if you use your clubcard with the purchase the details are on the receipt (and barcode if there is one), so they don't need to see sight of the card to "track" you. A quick scan of the receipt and with a few taps up come all your past purchases and R+Rs!

    Rufus.

the barcode is i am sure is only printed if no clubcard is used, so if you dont use it they wont ask, i have only been asked in blackpool but the points was not removed, i is also the only place i have been asked for my name and address so that may be the connection.

Mars Bar 6 packs are now £1.29

Sadly my local Tescos still has the ceiling sign hanging with the £1.05 offer on it.

I thoroughly agree. Shamre there are a few on this site not holding the same view.
As I have said before I can not for the life of me understand why they brouse this site during their leisure time. Are they frightened?? I think they have good reason to be. Martin and this site stand for "consumer revenge"
I must have bought products for years and not realised I was being deliberately overcharged. Tescos profits have until now been artificially inflated by our ignorance.

Suppose 2000 customers are getting £500 a month on RRs. That translates into a whopping £12million a year. We all know how this site is growing which can only spell bad news for Mr T and his grumpy CS.

i was reading about the time Mr T was fined in dublin for overcharging and t/s did a sample shop, they found a 3% overcharge and calcalated a extra £75 million in profits, i suppose as he says every little helps !!!
how is your % of overcharge ? the cd's are just a tad over 3% i think

So, if you know what you are going to be charged, how can it be an overcharge?

This seems a fairly spurious argument to me. Whether customers know that they are going to be overcharged or are completely ignorant of the fact, the fact is that they ARE overcharged - period - if they are charged the higher of the 2 prices on display for the same item.

I don't think it's fair to accuse R&Rers in this situation - How are we to know which price is correct? Nearly all of the in-store scanners have either been switched off or are conveniently "out of order". We take these items to the till in good faith and then discover to our horror - after paying for them - that Mr Tesco has been up to his tricks again.

The solution is for Mr T to ensure that whenever 2 prices are on display in store that the lowest one is always the correct one on the system. All too often the reality is the other way around. Hence, R&Rs. As others have constantly said, R&Rers are doing Mr T a great service bringing each of these items to his attention. It's up to him what he does with this knowledge.

It appears to a great many out here that he's decided that it's better to put up with a few "shelf-clearers" (you know....Mr & Mrs "I managed to pick up 17 cylinder vacuum cleaners and 2 tonnes of smoked mackeral today..." ) than truly make his pricing and labelling regime robust enough and risk losing all of that unquantifiable overcharge nationally - which, I suspect doesn't feature in the balance books when it's time for the Inland Rev to come snooping at the books....
