I have read posts and felt myself that I would avoid stores where it is a fight to get the R+R, but really that is diabolical, they can get away with overcharging at those stores because the staff are so difficult and rude.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

Can you do that if it clearly states offer ended as date in the past? I would have thought they would point that out and say you cannot have lower price as offer ended? Sorry new to all this R&R and find it a bit confusing
Yes you can!! As the nice CS pointed out to me "....you (the customer) are not supposed to read that (the date offer ends in tiny print at bottom of big yellow SEL)". That info. is for the staff only - it is their job to keep on top of the offer end dates and remove date expired SEL's. When/if they forget to do this - WINNER!!! Also pricing has to be clear and not misleading by law, as others have helpfully pointed out in this forum.
Of course these are local mistakes, but i've never yet found a CS who tried to argue over it. GO FOR IT!!!!

Suppose 2000 customers are getting £500 a month on RRs. That translates into a whopping £12million a year. We all know how this site is growing which can only spell bad news for Mr T and his grumpy CS.

    Let's suppose that they're not.

I find that getting R&Rs can be quite addictive but I honestly can't say that I've had anything like £500 in a month and I seriously doubt that many people have.

So, it's probably nothing like £12million a year. Even if it were, it's not terribly representative as this is based on the retail sale prices, not profits. Whilst I accept that turnover and profits are inextricably linked, you then need to work into the equation the massive overcharging that carries on unchecked.

The policy is in place as much to deal any potential action by Trading Standards and to make it more attractive against its rivals. The fact that most people don't know about it is immaterial - it's printed in every store near the CS desk. If people don't know, it's because they're not reading it or that CS are trying it on when uninformed customers notice an overcharge. Let's face it, there are plenty of good CS people out there who won't argue and will R&R without question. At that point, the customer must become aware of the policy.

I must have bought products for years and not realised I was being deliberately overcharged. Tescos profits have until now been artificially inflated by our ignorance.

Sorry but its extremely difficult not to get frustrated sometimes. You are not being deliberately overcharged. There are no evil gnomes that steal odd socks when you do the laundry and the goverment is not using mind control rays on you.

Because of the way the price changes are handled I can pretty much stake money that you have been undercharged much more often than overcharged. Thus you are not massively out of pocket because the evil Tesco masterminds are tricking you out of your hard earned wages.

In my opinion the R&R policy is there to compensate customers who in the normal course of their shopping are overcharged because something at that Tesco store screwed up some how. I also have no problem with people actively looking for R&R's as I think it encourages the stores management to do better as the money comes out of the stores budget. However I do have a problem with those who expect to be allowed to clear the shelf of a product for free. Those people KNOW they are going to be incorrectly charged at the till otherwise they wouldnt have cleared the shelf and really if they know they are going to be overcharged is it really fair to apply the policy? They are just twisting it to be greedy. Also how many times have you not been able to buy what you want in a store because its out of stock? Would it annoy you if it was because a greedy R&R'er had taken everything not because they wanted the items but because they were free?

    Phew :)

As i understand it from reading some of the posts in this thread, one of the reasons MR T operates the r&r policy is to avoid a possible £2,000 fine per missprice/overcharge.Surely morrisons, asda, sainsburys etc would be operating the same policy if this was the case,or is it the case that MR T is overcharging on a greater scale than the others?.As for the "policy is printed near/behind the cs desk" this is not true in all cases, one of my local stores(extra) took down the big board from behind the CS desk about a month ago though i have to say another reasonably local extra store has the policy written up in much larger letters than is the norm in most other stores.Imho i cannot see MR T continuing with this policy for too much longer, though from a PR point a strategic withdrawl may prove difficult.Just out of interest when did the r&r policy start?,i only became aware of it when i joined this excellent site around 3 months ago.

Im not a tesco employee, but I think Robert5686 has the wrong idea of this site it isnt consumer revenge as you put it it is a money saving site people using it to save money with people posting the credit card deals, bank account deals freebys and other consumer advice ohh and how can we forget the articles by Martin (guy is strippy shirts) there is 1 section where people are told how to obtain product free from a company with a policy that allows it. maybe you should have a look further in the furm its a great place you will find alot of other things of interest to you I hope.

So why do you think that you have the right to say some people shouldnt read this section of the forum Tars and spa2k have inside knowledge of the tesco systems and their posts have been very interesting. Definitions of forum and they are a nessasery part of discussing Tesco as they see things from the other side that we dont.

I have had my share of difucult CS staff, I just check who is on CS as I walk in the store now if it is the problem one I dont just go buy the R+R product I will buy other things I need to hide the blatent searching for free things.

I also doubt that anyone else has received £500 of free stuff as most people dont spend that much time in tesco. I only go if I need somthing or they have somthing on offer I want, I check this site about twice a day just incase anything new has apeared that I may want.

I have received 3 r+r's a digital camera, keane cd and pac pix on the DS and not had any problems on any of the manager was called on the camera but there was no problem. With the last 2 I didnt even have to mention the policy and all 3 of the CS staff said they wish they knew how to find them or it never happens to me you must be lucky. I did have a problem CS when I went for the xbox games but so did pretty much everyone else

As for doing Tesco a favour im not sure about, yes it helps them not get TS knocking at the door but those that take 20 of a single item are taking the p**s taking 1 helps them sort the problem just as well.

I think Tars has it about right here. Hunting for R+R's is perfectly valid, see allmy previous "everyone's a winner" posts on this subject, but it is a bit out of order to take all the stock of something because it's free.

Tesco may or may not change their policy, but speculating about it is a little pointless. I'd imagine that they'll get reported to TS a lot more if they do, as I can't think it will coincide with a huge improvement in their pricing integrity.

I think there's a fairly major "thrill of the chase" aspect to hunting for R+Rs. I also think these threads have illustrated that the majority of Tesco CS are at least reasonable if not actively helpful, but a good percentage can be unhelpful and rude.
  • I think the VAST MAJORITY on this site would take 2 Sony hi-fis given the chance if they were free. Surely these people who are preaching morals on here saying that that we R and Rers are a greedy bunch need to get real as my teenagers would say. These people just dont understand human nature. We are just picking up £10 notes that T has thrown around in the wind.
Dont you think T is the greedy one motivated by profit so much so that he displays misleading prices in his stores and then gives us a few RRs to keep him out of trouble with Trading Standards. He has this all sussed out that this leaves him free to overcharge us all. Mr T weighed this RR business up to get him off the hook. I would say he is the most schrewd businessman out there. He destroyed the corner shops and the local garages for his profit and we fools went along with him. He gets away with it by STEALTH and clever advertising just like our friend Gordon. But there, thats another subject.

Asked for r&r on chicken drumsticks (pack 2.49/kg, SEL £1.99/kg). PAck weight was approx 900g = £2.26.

After 3 CS people eventually manager turned up. Took pack upsatirs 'to see if it is scanning at 1.99 or 2.49, came back and said 'not overcharging' - you have been charged £1.99/kg.

It then took me several attempts to get her to see that
    1kg = £1.99
0.9kg should be less than £1.99
My pack was £2.26 for less than 1kg, so being charged more than £1.99/kg.

And this is a store manager!!!!!!!!
