I've seen alot of comments along these lines lately. Every refund / retain that takes place affects EVERY member of staff's wages, as well as the share price, and ultimately the dividend that tesco pay to each and every shareholder, so i am sure that a few of you are indirectly affecting the payout you recieve each year as shareholders!!

    Food for thought?

surely the potential fine from Trading Standards per wrongly priced item is a lot more expensive than giving a customer a R/R? this is nothing personal just my 2ps worth :o)

absolutely, i couldnt agree more however the OP said that the customer service lady had a face like she was paying for it herself, i pointed out that in a way all Tesco staff and share holders do....as they would any potential fine from trading standards.

A certain poster seemed to take offence to that!

Come to think of it most of my dealings with C/S seem to take it very personally, I found some rump steak tonight and C/S was fine till I mentioned 'The Policy' then it was grumpy miserable and can't be ars*d attitude

  • MrPastry,
All my dealings the same with CS. They start with happy smiley face offering me the difference. Like you its only when I draw to their attention the policy behind them that they start this grumpy attitude.
Saying that, its great to see them cave in!!!!!

Personally I welcome spa2k's comments on here, they are usually constructive and interesting and give a different perspective on the r&r. Other tesco workers pop up from time to time and seem more anti-customers or at least that is my interpretation.

One thing that Tars brought up earlier was whether a manager has the right to limit the number of items.

In one store I was told 2 and laughed. If I am overcharged (mispriced) and allowed to buy a dozen of one item how can they only say you've been overcharged (mispriced) on two?

I bought 42 individual pieces of crockery and was given r&r on it all (found accidently whilst genuinely shopping as opposed to r&r-ing!)

Thanks to everyone for a great read

It appears that half of the problem is the same as the coupon policy of a while ago...inconsistent implimentation.

There is a policy that is laid down by the powers that be at head office, this is cascaded down throught the ranks with little bits added or taken away in the same way that chinese whispers work. Staff training can sometimes go awry and peoples interpretation also comes into play. As for CS staff offering the difference, as a customer i would fight for my rights the same way that people on here do however as a member of staff i inwardly thank them for it is they that are helping to protect the pay rise that we are given each year!!

And once again, yep there are some CS staff out there that become grumpy when it is pointed out that their implimentation of the policy is wrong...... (this is aimed at no one in particular) BUT sometimes it is the way that it is pointed out that could be construed to be wrong.....there are an awful lot of grumpy customers out there too......and yes, i can be one of them.

i can see both sides of this debate but cant help leaning more to the fact that having only just found this site i think back to how many years i have been shopping at tescos and have been paying more than i should have as i did not know i was being overcharged, all that money i have spent out of MY wages! and the tesco staff on the other hand would not allow this to happen to them as they will have been in the know about this mispricing business all along and they have watched all us unsuspecting customers walk out being overcharged, its the customers that should be annoyed, not the tescos staff. As before just having my 2p worth.

I haven't had a problem with CS, they have given me a refund no questions asked - one even pointed out the policy to me! However, I have not yet had anything over £10.00 (I was not brave enough to try the x-box game r&r even though the poster was claiming that they were under £30). Maybe the CS staff who get grumpy are just simply jealous - especially if someone has had items such as the ones in the past few weeks (Sony Hi-fi/Dyson/X-box games), after all, we all like a bargain and love something when its free!!
