Dnew - I agree with you. I have always had just the difference in the past and only recently learnt of the price promise policy. I have now had 4 refunds for items that I knew were mispriced. I don't feel guilty about getting them as I am sure they probably don't even add up to all the overcharges I have had over the last 14 years as I only used to check expensive items - not the whole shopping receipt! I remember buying the minority report DVD and noticed I had been overcharged by £5.00, I went to customer services and just got the £5.00 difference back. The CS must have known that she should have refunded me the total and because I didn't know about the policy obviously didn't argue. I did think that maybe CS were told to try the difference first but with the 4 R&R's I have had recently I had full refund straight away without asking.

However I would not try to get a R&R unless I really wanted the item. The 24 DVD and few others were mispriced in my store but because I didn't particularly want the item I didn't bother trying!

I really wish I had got the Dyson and the CD player though, as I really could have done with them!

As far as I am concerned there is absolutely nothing wrong with getting as much as you can from Mr T.
Simply think about the two following points.

1). How many people actually check their receipt. It's virtually impossible when you are doing a weekly shop. But believe me there is likely to be a missprice and it won't be in your favour.

2). Most important point is that I have had R&R on items at for example 7 o'clock in the evening. One would expect that the missprice would have been there all day, and as CS remove the offending sel immediately all previous purchases would have been a plus for Mr T.

I am convinced they make more from the missprices than they lose in R&R otherwise they simply wouldn't make the offer.

Exactly - I have to say that until I read about all the errors on this website, I went along with the idea that if Tescos offered the "in the unusual situation it doesn't add up...etc", as that seems so generous I made the (apparently wrong) assumption that they are going to be spot on with their pricing so you don't need to worry about checking everything with a fine tooth comb...How wrong was I then!

Only if you fall into the "Yes they are all evil and out to get me" mentality. :D I mean how dare they offer R & R in the first place! The swines!

If you use the same logic to define undercharging as you do overcharging you will find that you are undercharged vastly more often than you are overcharged. Of course thats fine as its striking a blow for Freedom, sticking it to the man and other Robin hood style phrases. :D

Do try and take this in the not very serious way that its meant

I'm not sure if the question about guarantees on R+R items was answered earlier, but I was in Tesco at lunchtime and the sign says that your statutory rights are not affected so stick to your guns.

I have to disagree with this (well for me anyway).

In recent months I scribble the price of an item next to the shopping list as I put it in the basket, and check the noted prices against the receipt before returning home.

On the whole for Electrical items, most misprices were in my favour (CD/Radio, MP3 player, hairdryer), the only exception being a camera which I knew was mispriced.

Fruit and Veg tends to be 50/50 and is a little seasonal. For example as soft fruit prices rise in Autumn / Winter, prices go up, so more likely to be overcharged on these (but under on apples and potatoes). etc.

Meat prices yoyo - half the time SEL is higher than meat, BUT always charged at the meat price so never undercharged per-se.

Other groceries tend to get undercharged as much as overcharged.

An example receipt from last week has 16 items on it, 5 of which I was undercharged, and 2 overcharged (one I which I previously knew about). A Sainsbury's shop I did the same exercise on the other month had 33 items on it, and only one misprice - an undercharge.

IMHO Tesco change their prices too frequently!

    HTH - Rufus.

Just a quick question, when it comes to buying meats, etc - if the SEL is lower than the price/kg on the pack, can I still get an R+R even if the price at the till is the same as the one on the pack?

eg: lamb chops SEL 5.99/kg and pack price 6.99/kg rings up as 6.99/kg so the till is the same as the total price on the package.

According to their CS sign, "if things don't add up...." they refer to mistakes on the SEL OR the price on the package. Could Tescos argue that the pack price is right so you knew what you were paying?

when i got my computer and monitor on r+r they told me to keep the receipt as it acts as my guarantee still. ( Woman at electrical desk told me this)

so i would say that they should have never taken it off you and you are still covered. Phone HO and ask them about it?
