In fact the other week everyhting was going the other way, things were scanning at less than the SEL!

Tesco in Addlestone seem pretty hot. I've managed to pick up the occasional misprice, but seeing the shelves of meat products bereft of prices, there aren't many to find.
Last time I got a misprice off them they removed the SEL AND cleared the shelf as well as checking every other product of a similar category (all within 5 mins of reporting). I can understand why they have so few.

UPDATE:
I got a full refund of £59.40 on my 20 packs of chicken today.
I got speaking to Jessie, the *actual* store manager, rather than Paul, the night manager who had claimed to be the overall store manager.
Jessie checked it out and established that the £2.38 offer had been put up by mistake - but she said that it was Tesco's mistake and not mine, so she authorised the full refund while letting me keep the item.
Thank you all for your support. ;-)
(I still don't see how this is any better or worse than someone buying two console games valued at the same price. Can someone enlighten me? I've used up a quarter of my chicken already, by the way, as intended.)0 -

How is this meant to be helpful?
Well done for getting your chicken as the Tesco Policy and letting us know. That is therefore the end of the chickengate.0 -
Tesco in Heanor are red hot on missprices, very few mistakes there in my experience.Btw the glenn rannoch whiskey is back to £8.99,but its only a matter of time before it goes back to £9.99

Friend of mine went into Northampton Tesco last Monday and found a steak missprice. When he went to CS to get dosh and goods he was taken to meat section where little yellow notices were all over the shelves stating that the"unit price was was only a guide line"
CS would not give a missprice ! As he has about 2 million clubcard point :rotfl:
he was not prepared to argue.
I phoned local trading standards and complained about missleading notices etc.
They have just phoned me back and said that they had gone to store and agreed they were missleading and had phoned the manager about them. The manager said that they were their because the price per kilo changes all the time and the price of the item will change ! He was not prepared to remove the labels as it was a national policy and all Tescos will have the signs !
Local Trading Standards are sending both him and Tesco's head office a letter to explain that they think the signs are missleading.
If Tesco's get away with this it will be the end to all missprices.
I urge everybody to get in touch with their local Trading Standards and complain, they are very nice people and it is confidential.0 -

This would seem to be in deliberate contravention to the Price Marking Order 2004 that states that pricing must be "unambigious, easily identifiable and clearly legible". How these signs can possible be considered to deal with any ambiguity is beyond me (but I'm sure some spin doctor could come up with some appropraite bull to justify it).
It also won't help them one jot when they screw up (as they will) when they put out big yellow POS notices of discounts and fail to update the pack prices - Invitation to Treat, anyone?
And FACT - not all stores are showing these signs. I have yet to see these signs anywhere and I have visited 7 stores in three counties this week.
If Trading Standards consider that these signs are misleading, there can be little arguement, surely.0 -
"unit price was was only a guide line"
Surely if this is the case what is there to stop tesco putting a SEL of £49.99 on DVD player & then charging you £65 at the checkout, stating the SEL is a "guide" only.BTW there is none of these notices in Alfreton, heanor, hucknall, long eaton, toton, ilkeston, carlton or top valley stores so its def not national policy.0 -
