and strongly object the way I am treated at the CS desk. They introduced the policy, yet why do I feel like I am committing a crime for asking for a refund and replace. I am sure I am not alone on this one.

Couldn't agree with you any more!
Yesterday i left feeling humiliated by a Manager for the sake of telling him i had been overcharged by 40p.
I have 3 stores within the 7 miles radius , and eveyone of the CS has the same attitudes.

Any your job as a member of staff is to carry out the orders of the men/women above. your manager is told by his manager and so on until it is the person who made the desision at the top. They are paid big money to come up and impliment these policies.

I work at a premiership football stadium on the turnstiles and I am told everyone must have a ticket to get in and have paid the correct amount for that ticket Adults, Senoirs and kids. you think life on CS is hard, get a pi***d up football fan without a ticket or the wrong ticket 5 minutes before kickoff that isnt getting in to see the match without fixing the problem I am sure the CS never get that sort of thing happening. Its not my fault that I cant let him/her in (yes the women are just as bad) they tried to save money buying a senior or kids ticket I am just following the wishes of my supervisor who was told by his supervisor, the ticket office, the directors who decide the prices.

Once maybe twice a week for a few hours is a little different from 37 hours a week, week in week out dealing with customers who are hell bent on being awkward.....there ARE some who go out of their way to be pleasant but there are an awful lot more who "have been queuing for 20 minutes" (why is it always 20 minutes?) and "are always overcharged". And yes, we get the pissheads at night trying to buy alcohol after hours or the people who decide that they want a full shop at 3.55 on a sunday afternoon......we can argue all day about who has the worse job, my point was that the common reaction when dealing with retail staff is rudeness.

I had a situation today where I bought some chicken drumsticks that should have been reduced. The CS was great, agreed I'd been overcharged and said the offer was still current and runs until the 4th of Feb.

They then removed the SEL and so everyone buying the rest of the chicken drumsticks will be overcharged. Why do they do this and not alter the price on the product instead?

Technically they wont be overcharged as there is no lower price advertised however to answer your question....

I AM NOT DEFENDING THE ACTIONS OF THE PARTICULAR STAFF MEMBERS, JUST EXPLAINING.....

in order to change the price on the product, a member of staff has to procure a PDA (personal handset) and a printer, they have to have a login and password to the system, they have to be trained on how it works. They then have to reprice each individual product based on the new SEL price. This cannot be done by the CS staff as they have neither the training or the time and therefore must be done by someone on the relevant department. The logical course of action is to remove the label thus ensuring that the advertised price (that on the product) is the correct one and no lower price is shown. Legal compliance is therefore ensured.

    EDIT....

You rob us and we rob you back...all is even.

Nice phrase but: Tesco's robbery is illegal (and mostly in daylight). Our "robbery" is nothing of the sort, it's consumer power in action and Mr T had better watch out as it's being practiced here extremelt effectively. We're taking advantage of a policy that I suspect was brought into force for 2 principal reasons:

    1) To provide another trading edge over the rivals

    and

    2) To help prevent Trading Standards getting heavy with the stores because the central pricing and POS distribution systems are clearly inadequate for the massive task that they have.

There, of course, is a third possibility; it could all be deliberate. Is it just possible that one of the world's largest retailers could be taking us all for a ride on purpose? Let's hope not.

Thanks for the reply spa2k, but is this really ethical, if Tesco have an offer on, which they do, that is in date, which this was, and have products overpriced as these were, surely they are still overcharging on the products, the fact that the SEL has been removed doesn't mean Tesco's hve removed the offer, just that customers don't realise they have been fleeced.

Is this accurate or just my interpretation?

Please don't get me wrong I wasn't having a go at this particular CS, she was excellent, curteous, polite and sincere.

Tesco is meant to be the biggest and the best supermarket, yet there is always a hassle each time I go in. One in front is in my opinion one big lie, and I always end up queueing (particular on basket tills, which is where the 20 mins comes in). I should also not be overcharged. After being overcharged last Sat the CS assistant had to get a manager, who took 15 minutes to come to the desk. The CS assistants were apologising to me and telling me that it was not on. The manager did not apologise for keeping me waiting and tried to go against the overcharging policy. It seems to me there are those at Tesco who want to climb the corporate ladder and and those who just want a shop job, and there seems to be a vast difference between the two. I appreciate that some customers give you flack, but customers have been giving flack to Tesco for many years. Tesco have listened to most of it, which is why have have been successful.

Not sure where to put this and still shook up so here goes.........
Just came back from Tesco wont say publicly which one.Not my normal store but I was passing and it was on my route.Spotted Medal of Honour European Assault game at £39.99 in top 20(no 20).All top 20 games under £30.
First they tried to say that was dot com price then said only applied to 75% of games were adamant taking games off me and refunding even though I threatened them with trading standards as had took pics on my phone.Manageress was awful as was CS.In end I had to prize my games back. They refused to add on my points.i was fuming red faced queue behind.Had spare leaflet on counter showing under £30 price which along with their names informed them I was taking as price evidence.
Well i was treated like criminal had my wrist wrenched poster grabbed back and now have a nasty gash on my arm.Cheeky mare said I was a thief for taking a spare poster said I'd assaulted her taking poster! It was on counter and I'm sure all on camera. They left other poster on display.
Ive still got game and receipt and photo on phone although will need blowing up.
Advice please.I'm really upset hurt and angry over way I was treated.
