thriftlady - sound off all you want that's what we are here for :grouphug: . If it's any consolation I remember when I was small my mum having the same issue with her MiL - who expected us frequently. As a small child I still remember - whenever my parents said we were going to grandma's - asking "which one?" because I (and my siblings) simply hated visting her.
Bargain Rzl - glad you enjoyed the opera. It's one of the things I miss about not living in central London any more.
mummysaver, WS and redruby - thanksI just sort of feel that he should be wanting to protect me a little bit from all this IYSWIM. I don't need to be told that if I don't sign it it will cost a fortune in court fees or he will have to go abroad and sort it out on the continent (which wouldn't bother me if he actually made the effort to do that). *sigh* He has said that he will pay the fees if I do sign it, but fails to understand that really isn't the point. I don't understand his reluctance to go to court, all this messing about has already cost over 3K. I'm not sure that they could actually sting me for fees as I would be entitled to legal aid - on paper I am still a student and not technically employed as I have academic visitor status.
purpleivy - ((hugs)) for you - have you tried daylight bulbs, I got mine from hobbycraft and find they do make me feel a little better. I hate the yellow half-light we get at this time of year so much.
We are without rain here at the moment, but the sky looks threatening. Sometimes I just feel like curling up under my desk and making a nest in the big pile of jumpers that always accumulate wherever I workI did two more blanket squares last night and they are starting to look much more tidy than they did when I starte. I ordered way too much wool on-line (I think it was MrsMiCawber who posted the link on another thread) so I'm trying to make a dent in the wool mountain I already have before it turns up
.
Right - must go and grab some lunch - have found that the stilton goes really well with the pear and fig chutney I made earlier in the year, so I am nearly halfway through the huge chunk left over from christmascel x

Went to Mr m this afternoon, thought I would get some special offer Baked beans, but they didn't have any there. WIll try again when I'm passing. Got whoopsied spuds (avoided going into Aldi this am and they were about the same price), which was handy and whoopsied red cabbage, thenalso soda, vinegar, milk, fruit, sole pot of yoghurt. Also the last 2 bags of marmalade oranges. Quite pleased really, trying to make the most of what we have instead of getting more stuff.

I know just how you feel - I've got several bags of differing shades of pink wool, to make cardis & sweaters for my new baby niece, but I haven't got started on anything yetand I haven't finished the scarf I started for my mate's Christmas pressie either
.....think I'd better get my needles out tonight while the footie is on!
BTW, has anyone read the book "Hidden Lives" by Simon Garfield? Its a compilation of pieces sent into the Mass Observation during WW2, like Nella Last's letters were. It's really good - gives a real feel of how life really was.
OS, OH & I did all the ironing at the weekend, also fed us entirely out of the freezer (even down to bread & filling for butties for our walk on Sat!). Now want to buy as little as possible between now & 31 Jan, as £50 in the housekeeping pot has to stretch as it will have been a 6-week housekeeping month since payday on 19/12, and OH took the Christmas meat money out in December too, so it just shows what we can do when we have to!
Also need to pack up a book for Amazon that sold within an hour of listing
:grouphug: to those in need

I read the Hidden Lives book and really enjoyed it, so I have now got Nella Last's War with my Christmas money,"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

I set up the pushchair at the right angle to take photos of the books I am selling. I put in a nice clean white pillow case as a back drop. Guess where evil cat has been sleeping? I do hope that there is not enough resolution on the picture to show all the tabby hairs.
I took little bear out in the pushchair in the end, as the thought of waiting in a queue with a very active two year old on reins daunted me.I got there, and drat it! I forgot my purse! Poot and darn! I am not going back out. However the nice lady did say how much it was so I am contemplating lots of second class stamps stuck on the front of the otherwise neat parcel, said second class stamps, well, they have a shady history but at least they are already paid for.
Little bear is upstairs as my toothache has been exacerbated by the cold, so I am claiming mummy privileges. He seems fine. I hope he naps as he had a disturbed night, hearing little bear paws pattering round at 2pm was not conducive to my sleep either.
Plan of action - ebay ebay ebay. until 5.30pm then something quick from the freezer (using up my rubbish stuff, not much left). Then after dear heart is home and we have had tea I shall play nicely in the kitchen. Then little bear can go to bed and I can ebay, ebay, ebay. And throw things out. And ebay some more. And throw some more things out. And iron dear heart a shirt. And not get sucked into playing silly computer games until daft o'clock.
Thriftlady - I sincerely know where you are coming from. Good luck. There is never an easy answer, or at least, I never found it.

Hi Guys!
I'm still here. In alot of pain today but it has been rainy all day so not surprising really.
Managed to get out to Sainsburys this morning and stuck to our list of essentials we needed. Bought loads of fresh fruit and veg as OH is starting on a healthy eating plan as he needs to loose about 10lbs to get into a suit for next month. Tried their basic oranges (8 for 79p) and are delish, basic cabbage (49p), basic carrots (1.5kg 79p), apples (10 for 79p), bananas (9 for 99p)....so we will see what they are like but looked fine and fresh. Got loads of other fruit & veg too. Also lots of tinned fruit in juice for OH's porridge and DD's custard or ice cream. Lots of cupboard essentials and TTD ham, low fat spread for OH, l/f cottage cheese, squash, low fat soup tinned (3 for £1) pomegranite juice (3 for £2)....apparently excellent for prostate (OH's family has alot of cancer)....cant remember other stuff...but total came to £35:j :j :j :j :j .....really pleased. Only out about an hour but that was plenty for me....spent the rest of the day snoozing with blanket as I cant get warm atm.
OH sliced the Pork we were supposed to have last night with the slicer and there is enough to freeze for another roast meal and add gravy to it. Have warmed through in the cooker with gravy covering it. Also bought beef dripping last week and have roasted spuds in them but OH has had his dry roasted with salt & pepper. The dripping is a fraction of goose fat and a block for 40p will do about 10 loads of roasties.
WM has been on and the DW and house clean and tidy.
DD came home upset today as she had to tell a teacher about bullying going on with a boy in her class who has no fingers or toes. The kids were saying that his parents were hillbillies (sp) and inbreed (sp) and being nasty....she has never come across this before but was disgusted about it so went and spoke to her form tutor about it. I am so proud of her and I know the school will act quickly as they have a zero tolerance for bullying. She was sobbing when she told me as they were so nasty to him. Kids are so cruel! Have assured her that she did the right thing. She is worried that they will find out but they said they will do it all discreetly, but he did mention suspension and possibly being expelled as they are so strict.
Anyway I am rambling.

Three cheers for your DD!:T:T:T It takes a LOT of courage to stand up for what is right, especially in a school situation. From what I've seen, most schools are very discreet and do not mention the person's name who informed them of such going ons. I can see why you're so proud of her. And well done to you mum for bringing up such a lovely young lady!:TTake the first step.
Even if you cannot see the whole staircase,
Just take the first step.

PenPin - you must be very proud of your DD - she sounds like a lovely girl. I'm sorry you don't feel so good today; it must really wear you down, especially when the weather is so disagreeable. (((Hugs))) to you and your DD.
