Monday 19th January

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 19th January. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread that we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we have achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well!

Morning all,

Wet and windy here today which is typical, as I have at lease three loads of washing to do, I will have to do one or two and hang them on the airer.

We had quite a lazy time yesterday, dd and I went to matalan, I got a duvet set reduced to £15 from £40, and a few tops in the sale, we then came back had a late dinner, and dd and I made shortbread, and dipped them in chocolate, they were lovely :T .

Today other than the washing, I have to have a good clean through, do an online shop and make some soup, how much of this I achieve I dont know I did not have a great night and I have woken very tired, still will do as much as I can.

I am doing a beef and ale pie for tea, with mash, cabbage and carrots, which will warm us up, its meant to be very cold today.

Hugs to those in need, have good days all xx

Morning Ruby and all to follow,

It's been a scorcher here today - 36 degrees at the moment, and it's 6pm  . Forecast is for 37 tomorrow. Too hot for me really although it dries the washing in no time! The cat doesn't like it either, she's usually psychotic, today when I got home she just sort of crept into the kitchen and flopped down on the tiles.

Last week we had 39 on weds and my friend and I went to bikram yoga that same day, which is the yoga in a heated room  . Supposed to be going again this week so fingers crossed it's cooler.

OS wise, came home from work and instead of settling myself straight onto the sofa, I did the washing up, made the lunches, tidied up, put the bins out, brought in a load of washing and did another, hung the second load out, and made a really quite ridiculously sized batch of mince which is now in the form of cottage pies and is trying to cool on the side. I made some lovely gooey, fudgy brownies yesterday which I'm not supposed to be eating, they're officially for OH. Sadly I've already had two. This is not good for my diet.

I'm now on the sofa wearing very little (and not in a sexy way) and trying to stay cool. I'm flicking through the adult ed brochure and trying to choose between silversmithing and bookbinding. Any opinions? I've been toying with the idea of doing a course for a while because my brain seems to be slowly melting away. I can't change work because we need a stable income with OH starting a business so this seems to be the best option. I was thinking about 'build your own wood fired oven' but that's outside so I might wait until autumn for that.

Oh dear, I seem to have rabbited on a bit. I have one final dilemma - I don't yet feel it is my place to comment on other posters' problems etc but I don't want to seem stand offish - I know I never refer to anyone else in my posts but I don't know at what point it's deemed acceptable :o . Anyway, I am reading and taking note of all your dilemmas, disappointments and triumphs, I just don't know what to say! Bit like a kid on the first day of school :p

    Morning all,

As always I haven't had the chance to read over the daily thread over the weekend so apologies if I miss menitioning anyone. I shall try and catch up today. Warm ((hugs)) to all the poorly ones, the folks in need, the bereaved folks and jusy anyone that wants a cuddle for whatever reason

The weekend for us was very quiet. Both DH and I felt so very very tired for some reason, that bone aching tiredness that usually comes with the flu. I hope we aren't coming down with that. I personally blame stopping smoking and think it is that little nicotine demon trying to make us give in. 2 weeks in now and had to give up the patches last week as my skin was blistering badly from them, so, I am now day 5 with no patches and day 14 stopping smoking altogether.

Dinner last night was game pie, I had found some game casserole that I had cooked too much of at some point and froze the rest. It made exactly the right amount of pie filling so popped a pie crust of puff pastry that had been reduced to 17p in sommerfield and voila..dinner.

I did a meat shop on Saturday in Makro and got some really good bargains. Spent a total of £27 on meat and for that I got 2kg of mince, 4 lovely thick pork chops, 18 pork steaks which were reduced down to £4.70 as they had to be used by 23rd jan but were not pre frozen, 14 gigot chops and 2 kg stewing steak. Lots of meals there and I was delighted. Still ended up in lidl for the usual weekly shop though as the veg in makro seemed expensive and I needed some bits and pieces from lidle anyhow.

Have a good and safe day all. I hope I can finish work early today to avoid the blizzards that are heading our way.

    Mel xx

    Morning :hello:

Rain rain rain  I want to weed the veg patch but don't want to get wet :D Hopefully it'll stop soon and I can get out there and get muddy.

I've made so much food that it won't fit in the freezer

Everything in the house is pretty much done, I'm just waiting for the towels in the washer to finish. I might make some bread later.

I've decided I want to make baskets. Just little ones, Christmas style. Not quite sure what 'Christmas style' actually is, I just know I want them to look Christmassy :rotfl: And stars, made from twigs. Maybe  And pinecone Christmas trees?

    Morning Everyone,

No snow as forecast here just windy & cold. The boys were hoping for a repeat of the school closures that happened last time we had snow - I was not!! DD already gone to her placement from college - she's started with a Y1 class after Christmas & is missing the reception class a lot. She'll soon get to know the children in Y1 though. DS 1 & 2 will be gone by 8am.

Not going out here today so not spending any money I hope. WM on it's 2nd load, kitchen swished & animals fed. I dust & vac through on a Monday & mop so I'll do that when I'm dressed. Also want to wash the other sofa covers, the ones I did yesterday came up embarassingly clean LOL! Luch is HM spicy lentil soup & fruit, evening meal is spaghetti & meatballs in tomato sauce.

(((((((((((gentle hugs))))))))))) to all that need them. P P - hope you start to feel brighter in a couple of days.

    Morning.

I have not been around much as it's been very busy at work. Just did 37 hours this weekend and a bit pooped. Still the overtime will come in handy for my holiday fund.

All is well here. 47mm rain this weekend and cooling down, they say there may be some snow on the way.

I hope I finish early and can have a nice meal and wine tonight.... Cheers folks

    Good morning all.

Almo - I can't remember when I started mentioning others on here when I first joined; it just sort of happened, I think, when I realised how friendly everyone is on here! I am also wearing a lot and looking very unsexy, too! We get about three days sometime in July when we can wear not a lot! With your courses, if the recession gets any worse, no-one will be able to afford silver, so maybe bookbinding is the way to go?

Mudgekin - (((hugs))) to you and DH. Hope it's not the flu.

Tru - sounds like you want to make homespun organic things for Christmas; don't forget, besides pinecones and twigs, you can always find teazles in the countryside, amongst other things like bullrushes, acorns, leaves and so on. You could maybe spray some of them with gold paint and leave the others au naturel, and use lots of ribbons in earthy colours.

Woke up to pouring rain lashing at the windows this morning, but it seems to have eased off for a while. I have to go out later so I hope it holds off. I got loads of washing dry on the line yesterday because we had a lovely day. Today's washing will end up on the airers upstairs.

Dinner tonight is stew because I want something quick and easy - just have to prep the veg, the hardest part. Pudding will be the rest of yesterday's plum and apple crumble.

I have loads of silly little jobs and phone calls to make today; I've written a list and keep groaning every time I look at it. Still, as I tick them off, one by one, I hope to start feeling smug. I still have to wrap DGS and DGD's birthday pressies (his birthday is Tuesday, hers is Friday, but I'm picking them both up from school on Wednesday so they'll have their presents from us then), so I hope to get them done this afternoon. I can't find one of DGD's presents (I may have accidentally given it to her for Christmas; I'll have to ask her Mum - it was so manic here on Christmas day that I didn't see them open all their pressies!) so I may have to buy one more thing. I shall look in the shops this morning. She's mad on animals and wildlife so I should be able to find something.

Anyway, I've mioliered on a bit so will love you and leave you. I hope everyone has a great day and doesn't get too cold or wet.

(((Hugs))) to all who are sad, unwell, nursing sick pets or loved ones, or worried. My thoughts will you all.
