Options
Hi,
Does anyone on here have any experience with london energy, all the comparison sites say they will save me quite a substantial amount of money on my gas and electric. Im changing supplier after being disgusted with customer service at powergen the problem is i have never heard of this company before. What are your experiences good and bad.
Thanks
Phil

If you do a search for London Energy you will find a number of people have posted of their experiences with them(jem16 is one person).
I don't think I have read much adverse comment but I don't think many people have been with them for a long while.0 -
i've been with them for 6 months or so. no problems so far. the customer service is freephone and 24 hours too!0

They've been really lovely to me, I used to be with Powergen but switched to LE when i moved to london. They're easy to get hold of, polite, do what they say they will do and you earn nectar points on your bill. Problem is comparison site says powergen will save me more, so I'm switching back to them!Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94
Current debt: £14,000.00
Debt free date: June 20080 -
We've been with them 10 months now, no problems, very good CS.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0

Based on combined bills of around £700. The energy line says I can save £140 compared to PowerGen.
I will loose my Clubcard points but seems to good an opportunity to miss as I'll get nectar.
Is there any catch?
how long will this tarrif last?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.0 -
I've been on the tariff since March 2005, for new customers there has been 2 slight increases, I am still on the pre-March tariff, but don't know if others are still on this tariff who signed up before March or are on the pre-October tariff.
It's a saving, so I'd go with it, even if it only lasts several months, if they do decide to increase their rates and you decide to switch you will remain on the pre-increase rates until the switch.
Tesco club-card points should only be considered a bonus, you say you usually pay £700 in the year, for that you would get 700 points, which in money terms is £7, I think the £140 saving is better than £7.
NOTE: You need to sign up via the comparison site to get the tariff quoted, and not direct via London Energy. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It is important that people look up the savings for their geographic area.
A saving of £140 on a £700 spend will not apply across the whole of UK. The savings could be much less' or even higher depending on your area.0 -
But this is using the comparison site, so it will be basing the savings on what you are currently paying in your region. So if you enter a Birmingham postcode, and tell it you are currently on PowerGen, it will take your current usage based on PowerGen Midlands tariff, if you entered a Manchester postcode, then they'd use PowerGen's rates for that region.
So if The Energy Helpline says there is a £140 saving if they switch there will be, as they have taken the region into consideration. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... Only just noticed this thread.
As Cardew said, I have posted on a few occasions about London Energy. I have been with them for about 2 months now. I find their customer services helpful and easy to get hold of, plus it's an 0800 nmuber which is even better. My online account is quick to load and very clearly set out. They kept me fully informed about the switch whcih happened when they said it would.
I have had my first electricity bill from them which was clearly laid out and easy to follow unlike some that I've seen.
For my area, it was very much the cheapest.0 -

Yes you are correct and obviously the savings shown on the comparison site will be for your area.
Reading this forum many people do not seem to appreciate that tariffs, and hence savings, vary according to the district in which you live. You frequently get postings saying "change to company X and you will save £Y"
I was simply pointing out to people that they should not assume that the London Energy savings over Powergen will be of that magnitude(£170 on a £700 spend) across the country.0
