OH is in bed already so I've had to abandon any plans involving the upstairs of the house or any degree of noise. Looks like i'll be mopping floors and then slobbing around reading a book for the afternoon. Suppose the enforced break will do me good but its affecting my marbles. I got to thinking I'll have 2 weeks off work with nothing whatsoever to do. If I don't do something with it it will be wasted but if I don't have a plan I'll bumble around and will find its flown by before I've realised so I need a get me through the x-mas school hols with a sense of achievement master plan. I do have a few vague ideas mostly involving cooking my way throught he store cupboard to free up some shelf space and because I'm starting to find cooking quite therapeutic. Apart from the knife wielding 7 year old part of it that is.

I would like to come up with the ultimate money making / saving plan but I think I'm just going to aim to live sensibly and more importantly happily without obsessing over every penny. The months I'm relaxed about things seem to be cheaper than those where I record every penny spent and worry about things that haven't happened yet. Tis also more exciting when I do my end of month tot up and realise we've done better than I thought we had. Yep I'm totally barking.

One DooYoo done, one more to go. Early lunch beacons. Will tackel the house after that.

Borrowed a film from a friend last night as OH had been going on about it for ages and friend in question had it on loan from Blockbuster for four days. Sat down to watch it. Somehow or other OH had convinced himself it was a comedy, a WW2 parody to be precise, but instead it turned out to be a depressing gore fest. He went to bed. I stayed up till almost midnight to watch it to the bitter end. I have since turned into a pumpkin. Clearly I require considerably more than 5 hours sleep per night. Still feeling snuffly but the majority of the cold appears to have been beaten into submission. Just hoping my voice feels like reappearing sometime soon.

DD2 thoroughly enjoyed her birthday despite OHs side of the family completely ignoring it again. Still it doesn't come as a surprise as they've never bothered in the past either. She opened enough presents to keep her happy but was more excited that she was allowed to bring schools princess for a day outfit home. The dinner ladies issue all birthday girls with a pink sash, a sparkly tiara and a wand for the day. Have to remeber to take them back this morning otherwise I will be hung, draw and quartered.

    Plans for today:
    • return DVD to friend
    • return princess equipment to school
    • vaguely consider arranging to get clothes dry cleaned in preparation for OHs bosses third wedding in January. Nag OH to see if I need to sort a pressie out for it.
    • Tidy, tidy and tidy some more.
    • Work out if theres anything last minute that would be easier to do without the DDs assistance and if so get that done by 2:30 tomorrow.
    • Pay for yesterdays coal delivery
    • Consider writing x-mas cards. Have done most of those that needed posting (I think) but have totally lost track of who I have and haven't sent them to.
    • Gut the disasterzone surrounding the computer desk which is knee deep in books, jigsaw puzzles, bubble wrap, stuff I'm not going to E-bay before January and a farm not to mention two weeks worth of data I need to input for the postie lot. That should fill a few hours. Fortunately I vacuumed round it yesterday.
    • Come up with a fab excuse not to be stuck at school until 9:30pm tonight with the junior film club. Fortunately the boss has offered to lock up.
    • Still didn't get round to cleaning the bathroom properly. Suppose I'll need to squeeze that in at some point today too.

Its been a fun filled morning. So far today I've skewered my foot with a garden fork writing off the wellie just above the steel toe cap but avoiding drawing blood. Thinking that things could only get better from theat point on I sat in on a leaving service for a member of staff. My only text of the week chose this 15 minute window of opportunity to arrive and so sandwiched in the deadly silence between Kingle Bells and the Lords prayer my pocket let rip with "Incoming.... wheeeee......" followed up with manic chuckles (Lemmings) at which point the entire school was in hysterics, teachers were sniggering into tissues and everyone was looking at me and the school cook who were both beetroot red and in fits of giggles. Must remember to turn my phone off in future. Fortunately the boss was trying too hard not to laugh so I didn't get told off. Mind you I seem to get told off at every assembly much to the kids delight. Perhpas thats why I only have to go on special occassions.

Washing machine is on already. Need to do two loads today to reach the bottom of the basket.

Its minus two outside and chuffing feezing although very pretty to look at. Will be levaing extra early to defrost the car and there will be more ice on the inside than the outside. Thats an incentive to fix the leak from the ariel thats been annoying me for the past nine months.

OHs lurgi has progressed into the full blown pukey variety. Hes smoking in the bathroom under the extractor fan which is driving me nuts. The whole house reeks of smoke and its irritating my chest which is making me cough more and my throat hurt. I know hes addicted to nicotine but it seems incredibly unfair on everyone else. Still there will be no reasoning with him without causing a huge arguement which is then unfair on the girls. Will just have to hope he can keep it to a sensible level. 30+ a day will drive me nuts.May suggest he attempts to use the discarded electronic fag instead as at least that doesn't smell. Although I'm still not convinced what implications that has on the health of everyone else around him.

Anyhow no point whinging about things I can't change. Have done more DooYoos so now only have 23 to go. Still haven't done anything upstairs. Probably won't get chance today either if hes likely to be asleep for most of the day.

    Plans for today:

    • Get DDs up super mega early
    • Defrost interior and exterior of car. Rahter worringly the radio light went out whilst doing this yesterday so I fear my battery may well be rather unhappy. Hope theres enough juice to get it going.
    • Dress uber warmly as I'll have to spread grit over two car parks and three playgrounds first thing
    • Remember to take bike pump to repair wheelbarrow as its been returned from a teachers house with a puncture. I hate people who borrow things and return them broken.
    • Sneak into church to listen to DD1 playing Jingle Bells on her cello at the school carol service
    • Do things that need doing without disturbing OH in the hopes he doesn't share his lurgi with me or the DDs. My plans for the next two weeks do not include vomit!
    • Wrap parcels for the minions at school and crucially remeber to take them in today.

Bah humbug. School was abandoned last night with minimal attempts at clearing up by the PTA. I spent the first hour and a half cleaning up after them. Chair person had the cheek to come and say she hoped it wasn't too messy as they'd had a quick whiz round before they left. Perhaps they were all wearing blindfolds when they did this. Lazy toe rags couldn't even be bothered chucking the rubbish in the bins so the floor varnish has lifted where the bags leaked. Can you tell I'm just a little bit cheesed off?

Still thats the last PTA event of the year and to be fair it did make my morning fly by.Have already had a very swift cuppa and am about to embark on operation gut the house in four hours without making any noise whatsoever.

Managed to get all the presents wrapped. Have a niggly feeling that I've forgotten something or more importantly someone. Ah well. Possibly thats what comes of having wrapped everytihing for the far flung people over a month agao. I've forgotten who and more importantly what has already gone. I did write a detailed list but I've since filed that somewhere very safe. Too safe in fact cos I can't remember where.

Will need to admit defeat and visit a supermarket before too long. The kids seem to have chowed all the cereals leaving me with a choice of instant porridge or starvation. I hate porridge. On our last loaf of bread too. Can't bake any as the house is too cold and what comes out of the bread machine looks more like a brickt than a loaf.

Vaguely considering taking the DDs to Chester Zoo as a treat over the hols as they've been incredibly good recently. Will also need to take DD1 shoe shopping but the thought of traipsing round heaving city centres just doesn't appeal.
