Got there about 1pm on Friday and walked to the B&B which was miles away! We thought we were lost at one point because we were on this really long road and the directions just said 'continue on to Granville Terrace' but it was one of those weird roads where they randomly change name half way down for no particular reason! The B&B was OK. I wasn't expecting much, 'cos it was cheap, and I got what I expected. The bed was very comfy though, so that was OK.Breakfast was OK too, not great but then for £5 what do you expect!
There was haggis though!
Went shopping all around High Street and then had BOGOF Pizza Express for tea. Yum yum!
Did I mention my OH weird collection of swords and other weaponary etc? Well, he dragged me all around Edinburgh looking for this guys workshop that he had bought a sword from a while ago. Not fun in the baking heat on Friday! And when we got there- the guy wasn't even there! I was ready to scrag OH but lucky for him the guy turned up as we were leaving and let him have a look around his workshop. Cue 45mins of boredom for me:rolleyes: Only vaguely thing interesting was the guy had one of Rob Roy's swords which he was restoring for some museum or other or something(I stopped listening) so it was interesting to see this genuine historical piece but other wise-dull! Why do I put up with it?! On our anniversary too!:D
After Pizza Express we went on the ghost walk- 'Underground City of the Dead' It was touch and go whether they were gonna do it as they normally need 10 people to do it but only 4 people (including us) turned up then at the last sec 3 people turned up and they deceided to go ahead with 7 people. It was quite interesting hearing some of the history and seeing the conditions some people used to live in. Then there was the spooky stuff about the 'South Bridge Entity' and the 'South Bridge Curse' to get you all tensed up and then they switch the lights out at then end! When the guide switches the light back on- some guy jumps out and scares you. I screamed like a little girl!:rotfl:Unfortunately for OH I had my arm round him and grabbed him really tight and scratched him:rotfl:The 'South Bridge Entity' is supposed to scratch you- but his were all from me!! It was very funny- everyone was laughing so much at being made to jump.
Spent most of Saturday in the castle- very nice views from up there seeing as the weather was so good. Managed to get a really bad headache though, don't think I drank enough water as I was walking around and ended up going back to the B&B quite early (5pm-ish) to have a little sleep! We had fish and chips on Saturday for tea which was loverly (and cheap!) from a shop on the High Street, and then had a Big Breakfast from Wannaburger on Sunday morning (a little disappointed that they didn't do haggis but I guess they were catering for all tastes) I tried to buy some Whisky minatures on Sunday morning for my Dad but your licencing laws say no-can-do until 12.30- and that's just about when our train was!
Managed to get some from train station though so all's well that ends well.
Phew- it was a busy weekend!
Spent less than I budgeted for, which was nice. It was good to be able to do and buy what I wanted and not worry. I think it would have ruined it a little if I had been worrying evrytime I wanted an icecream or a drink or whatever. I put some that was left over in my 'sealed pot' which will be spending money on another holiday and have about £8 left to last a couple of days of bits and pieces spending so I can spend a little less out of my normal budget as well this week. All good0 -
Quick question before I go back to work - what was the name of the sword-man? I used to know a guy called Paul who does all that kind of gubbins and one of my friends is quite well-known in the medieval fighting circles in Edinburgh.
Glad you had a lovely time in our fair city0 -
Hi Laura,
Glad you had a good weekend, couldn't have picked a better one weather-wise! Well done managing to stay within budget, I once went for 1 overnight in Edinburgh with two friends and managed to spend £300 - eek! They (not me) have expensive tastes, i.e. champers but I had to go along!0 -

Hi Laura
Glad you enjoyed your trip away to sunny Edinburgh, and boy did you pick the right weekend. I am further north than Edinburgh and today we had hailstones and tonight it is miserable and pouring with rain, whereas last Friday we were sitting outside in the sunshine. Gosh, you did well too budgetwise on your weekend, you clever little MSE student you!
Counting down the days to my hols now - 4 weeks tonight we will be on holiday, and only 20 days to work! Going to York, and can't wait!
