Ryanair Debit card charge grumble

The only price that I am ever interested in is the " bottom line " price, if Ryanair is the lowest, I use them, if it isn't I use the alternative.

I don't care how the " bottom line " is achieved, it really doesn't make any difference.

    Rubbish.

It's misleading to call it a handling fee, when it is something like 30 times the actual cost.

Without delving through their T&C's, you don't know about the fee until after they have quoted for the flight.

Not saying it's illegal, but it is misleading. I assume by not charging for using an electron card (the least used payment card!) they can argue that they do sell flights for £xx.xx all in... which is pretty misleading again.

You don't have to delve through the T+Cs all the fees are listed in a table one click away from the home page. Link on left hand side. "Ryanair Fees"

    http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/faqs.php?sect=CHARGES

I don't agree that calling it a handling fee is misleading. Wether it is 30 times or 30000 times the actual cost it is still a fee charged for handling the payment. The amount of the fee is clearly stated.

There really is more than "bottom line" price when choosing an airline.

How about the quality of the customer service, the quality and cleanliness of the aircraft, the onboard catering, lounge access etc.

I have decided not to use Ryanair, not because of the charges which are missleading, but because everything feels bargain basement. I would rather pay a little more for a better quality of transport.

And you still haven't answered the questions above ?
I will buy Ryanair tickets quite regularly (3-4 times a year) on behalf of somebody else (not myself) to a destination that is not served by any other airline (currently) so there is no alternative.

Easyjet and Wizzair are low cost airlines which I have used before that don't seem to use such devious methods to increase the final ticket price.

I've applied for the Halifax account with the Electron card now. No doubt Ryanair will find an alternative 'cost' in the future.

A handling fee implies it is representative of the cost of handling the chosen payment method. £5 per person per flight is not representative of the cost of handling therefore in my opinion calling is a handling fee is missleading.

To be honest everything about Ryanair from the "handling fees" to "check-in fees" to "baggage fees" to the cost of buying a sandwich onboard to the cost of calling them on the telephone is designed to take money from the customers without them really realising.

As someone else said it is a very similar stance to Gordon Brown's taxation policy - I believe the word used is "stealth". The thing is we are not a stupid as they think and are wise to these dirty tricks.

That is of course your choice, I use Ryanair ( amongst many ) to get fro A to B, that is all that I require.

Their aircraft are amongst the most modern fleet of any.

Maybe you should try reading the small print on the right of your screen:

Forum Etiquettecollapse_tcat.gifarrow.gif Pls be nice to all MoneySavers. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.

There is NO ALTERNATIVE AIRLINE to the destination I needed tickets to!

This was my first post and your reply to it is inconsiderate and unhelpful.

I used to be of the same opinion as you, but after going Emirates Business Class or Virgin Upper Class you are in a different world. Going back to Ryanair is painful.

And before you jump on me, yes you are looking at paying 20 or 30 times more, but you just realise how basic Ryanair actually is.

    .
    Your opinion and mine differ

A handling fee is just that.
There is no implication that it is representative of the actual cost involved. You are making an assumption that it should be.
    You are misleading yourself.
