Ryanair Debit card charge grumble
Comments
-
Hey I've no problem with O' Leary's business model whereby he makes his profit on the 'extras' and hence offers cheap (or even free!) flights! That's fantastic for us and very smart thinking. My bugbear is only with the pretence that Ryanair need to charge you £5 for each and every person per flight to cover some sort of admin costs.
If I were to book a ticket for a 2 leg return flight for 5 people with a visa debit card, Ryanair would claw back an extra £100 in so-called card administration costs, which would probably in reality only cost them 1 or 2 pounds. This is dishonest and should not be acceptable regardless of the cheap flights that he offers. Why he can't be upfront and add £5 to each ticket from the start is not clear.
Cos that would mess up his "flights from 99p" business model.
It is dishonest and misleading I agree, I'm just saying we'll always have to pay it one way or another.0 -
come on, theres no free lunch. atleast ryan air gives a free lunch but makes you work for one!!.. and also makes you fly light!!. Can you please try running a business with free or cheap fares!!! obviously they charge for extras which you can(but most will not) avoid with a bit of extra effort. e.g fly light if not pay baggage charges, pay by electron or pay card charges, check in online or pay for airport check in.
Remember THERE IS AN OPTION ATLEAST!!!!
Get yourself a halifax easy cash account which gives you a visa electron card!! or any of the other bank accounts which give you one.
Thanks, I have just applied for the above account. It took less than 5 minutes
hopefully I will be able to make use of the ryanair flights later in the year
finally debt free and want to keep it that way!!0 -

It's not dishonest or misleading.
The charge is clearly stated and you have the option of not paying it if you use an electron card.0 -

And you still haven't answered the questions above ?0 -

Rubbish.
It's misleading to call it a handling fee, when it is something like 30 times the actual cost.
Without delving through their T&C's, you don't know about the fee until after they have quoted for the flight.
Not saying it's illegal, but it is misleading. I assume by not charging for using an electron card (the least used payment card!) they can argue that they do sell flights for £xx.xx all in... which is pretty misleading again.0 -

Correct, they need to have at least one route to obtain the headline fare without extra charges. They use Visa Electron for this because it is the least widespread card.
Yes it is sneaky, missleading and a practice that should be clamped down on IMO.0 -
Nobody is forced to use Ryanair, don't like the T&C's, ... easy ...dont use them, use another more expensive airline.
Sorted.;)0 -
Or we all apply for "my first bank accounts"! With the new Faster Payments, you can get to the booking screen, send cash instantly from a proper bank account into the Ryanair bank account and use the electron card. It's a bit of a pain, but saves a fiver a flight and most importantly gives Ryanair less of our cash.0

Who said we are forced to use them? But for certain destinations, Ryanair are sometimes the only realistic option.
You can use a company and still moan about the way they operate.
The guys behind PayPal will burn in hell for example, but I still receive £100K a year through a PayPal account...0
