Hey KM thats a good run considering it accounts for almost half your weekly mileage
Sorry about the snow - hopefully it wont keep you away from running too much this week0 -
well done Becky and Rich on your 20 miles..ill be there in a couple of weeksI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

I've no doubt you can do it Sally - but be careful pushing the distance - its taken me about 10 weeks to go from 14 to 20...because you're fully emptying your body of glycogen it takes a while to adapt and learn to burn fat instead - there was no way I could have run any further today - I had to lean on a post for a few minutes after stopping0
-
well I don't have much choice but to push the distance ...marathon is 11 weeks today. According to Rich's plan 6 weeks before I do 20 miles anyway so sure I will be fine by then.
My aim is to get around marathon in decent time not to break any records (well unless I come up with something witty that guiness might add me in for) and I'm dam sure there will be far more people struggling than me who have decided to start training from scratch in Jan on a 16 week plan :rotfl:I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Sorry I just meant be careful - of course you know what your body can take, but collapse point is about 3 times your average daily mileage - my avg is about 7 miles so my collapse point is about 21 miles - hence why I was so tired today.
6 weeks is a good amount of time to get there though
I know 16 weeks - nutters!!!0 -
Wow, some really good mileage from peeps this weekend!!!
If we have a collapse point of 3 times average milage, that means we need to be regularly doing 8.5 miles as a "normal" run.......I can do that easily on a Wednesday, and then going further on a Sunday, so that gives me a bit of hope!!
To start from scratch and do a 16 week programme would be terrifying though :eek:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Well sort of - your avg daily mileage is your weekly mileage/7 obviously, but it depends on what you want to do...
For a 3:30 marathon you need to run 20 miles then race 10K so the weekly mileage needs to be about 50-60 miles for 6 weeks before the marathon...
But if you want to do a 4:00 for example you run 26.2 miles - so you only need to average 40 miles a week for the 6 weeks before the marathon - since we're 11 weeks away then you should be at about 35 miles a week at the moment and running long runs of about 14 miles...
Dont forget your collapse point is built up over the previous 6 weeks so this is when you start ramping up mileage now which should rapidly increase your collapse point...
The mid week runs are important for building the weekly mileage without relying too much on the long run - 8-10 a is a perfect distance for them, but you can do shorter ones twice a day for example like I am...whatever helps you fit in the miles! These runs should all be about 2 mins/mile slower than your speedwork to get any real benefit from them too!
Phew hope I've explained that properly - Rich may correct later when he gets back to Leeds0 -
That sounds about right - I have been doing 8-10 miles on a Wednesday since the new year, with 5-6 miles on those other weekdays that blisters/coughs/the weather has allowed, and a bit longer on Sundays....
Obviously I have missed more days than I would have liked over the last few weeks, but on those days that I have got out, I am pleased with my milage. Hopefully I can just build on that over the next few weeks, and stay relatively injury free.
My original aim was 4:30 - perhaps that is not realistic, but I really really want to be under 5 hours, and I think that IS realistic if I keep going the way I am.
When I did the marathon before (a million years ago) I am sure I never put in half the miles I am doing now - certainly my midweek runs NEVER went over 5 miles, and often they were only 3 miles, and I went on to get round in 5:16, so on that basis I am on target I think.
Anyway, time will tell and I will get out and do what I can in the next few weeks and will enjoy it!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Hypno - I think if you can consistently (blisters permitting
) do that sort of mileage then yes 4:30-5 should be on - 11 weeks is a long time, and you've been getting some good mid-week and long runs in...
How do you feel your speedwork is going by the way??0 -
Way to go everybody!
I love seeing how all you more experienced runners are progressing.
I went for personal training today; we were doing intervals on the treadmill. I found it pushed me quite a bit, especially when we lengthened the running phase from 1 min to 1.30 mins!
I don't feel too bad physically, and I'm happy that my heels aren't sore from the walk I did yesterday. I'm so glad I'm back up and running (excuse the pun!)0
