chick is wayyy better than 60 mins.....she is almost at 50 mins for 10k! It was me that was just outside the hour mark - 60 mins and 27 seconds I think......grrrr!!
As for motivation - thank goodness for the ipod I say - but also, I try not to think of anything - my running time is my time NOT to be thinking about the stresses of life - it is my time to clear my head, so the longer I run, the more clear my head will be!
Sorry Chick (and Hypno) having a duh day today (I blame it on racing, but I'm not sure it is that - I forgot I'd agreed to plan my friends birthday the other day) - feel free to slap me - I'll go sit in a corner now:o:o

Just back from my tea in time to give Becky a slap
.
Hehe, yes I was aiming for a sub-50 10k but haven't got there yet. (But I haven't given up.) I will have another pop at it this weekend, but I will be doing a long run the day before, so probably not the best lead-in to the event, but hey, whatever!
As for 10k-specific training, the schedule includes 800m & 1-mile intervals, plus plenty of running, including some surprisingly long runs designed to build overall fitness and strength. Rich, of course is the expert here.

Thanks Chick and Hypno - slaps received (ouch)!
For all who missed that:
Chick = sub 50 minute 10k aim
Hypno = sub 60 min 10k aim and was 27 seconds off a few weeks ago
Got that - now get it right next time - sheeesh0 -
Is this thread like the old one but drugged up on speed? Its certainly going at some pace - especially for a weekend!
Chickadee - Fantastic training session yesterday. Your speed is there from the 10K and clearly the distance is building nicely as well. That walk will have helped as well - if you get through tomorrow without too much stiffness it shows that you are working well within your limits. Excellent news.
I feel for Jonathan though, he must be going barmy - its not even as though he knows it will be healed up in a certain number of days, its those mystery type injuries that are most frustrating. Maybe it will just disappear as quickly as it appeared at some point? Fingers crossed.
Ukevas - To run your furthest run so far and your fastest pace so far in the same run is quite some achievement, even if it was on the flat!
To anyone interested in run/walk merits/drawbacks I did a bit of a post at the end of the old thread Post 9189. Its all a matter of opinions, but I wouldn't entertain any kind of run/walk/run/walk type sessions if my own muscles and bones were on the line!
Cnoelj - Nice to see you're getting back into it and that you're remotivated for Edinburgh!:D
Bextarraga - Hello again. In terms of what to think about there's two types of way of dealing with it (apparently) - Dissociation, where you think about anything and everything such as shopping lists, crossword puzzles, lustful thoughts etc etc or Association - where you are constantly thinking about your running and monitoring how your body is feeling and whether you need to adjust the pace etc. I think that I tend to dissociate in slow training runs and associate in races and quality sessions!
Hypno - It drives you mad seeing other people running when you can't doesn't it. It drives me mad with jealousy when I see other people running now until I realise that I am actually a runner again!
Mizzy2 - Good luck to you and your bf, gentle as you can will bring the quickest improvements in fitness!
Becky - It looks like those racing endorphins have kicked in. You were almost in the first half of the field - in your first race! Finishing 442nd and beating 389 runners. And as you know, this was a serious race with some very fit looking people involved so that is excellent!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Oh, I forgot to say another well done, Becky, on not getting fazed at the beginning of the race.
Just for info, because we were parked about 200m in front of the race start and the start was in a tight lane there was no way of fighting through several hundred runners to get a 'sensible' starting position.
Therefore, in her first race Becky was starting at the front of a 800+ strong field, surrounded by 5:30-6:00 /miling runners.
Could be a little scary, but it was dealt with well, very impressed!:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
