I am envious of the progress people are making. Well done folks

I am still bronchial although I have just come back from a short run. It is hard going at the moment and not much fun. Always pleased afterwards that I went out. Just making slow progress and I think I will until this cough is sorted. I think I will have to insist that the doc gives me some antibiotics. I can understand their reluctance not to hand them out like smarties, but it is coming to the stage where I really need them.

    Hi Chris,

That sounds incredibly frustrating. You're right about doctors being more reluctant to hand out antibiotics too early any more (mainly because their effectiveness gets nullified over time with greater use I think) but hopefully your doc will come to the same conclusion as you at some point?

    Good luck with that.

Well done Rich on a fantastic 10k & an excellent second-half 5k. A negative split! (Never manage those myself unless the first half is uphill & the second downhill :o ) You are really hitting all your targets at the moment. All of the training is certainly paying off.

I have just been out for a 6-miler with OH (whose calf problem gave him no trouble at all :D ). A beautiful morning here. Cold but sunny and a pleasure to run in. I'm really pleased that I ran around 9-minute miles this morning on the back of 15 miles yesterday. I was hardly out of breath when I got home so my recovery period is definitely improving and I feel great now.

Sorry to hear that coughs, colds and other general malaises are holding others back. So frustrating when you have a target and you just want to get out there and run. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I manage to stay illness and injury-free between now and my race. I know how unpleasant I would be if I couldn't run.

Thats brilliant news about Jonathan, Chick - I bet he's delighted and no doubt you are too because living with a frustrated runner is not much fun!:p

21 miles in the last 24 hours and a really good tempo pace today shows that your body is getting used to the distance work nicely. It is certainly the key lesson for distance runners that if you do the long miles easily enough it doesn't need to take a great deal out of you and leaves plenty energy for faster work when you need it.

Your confidence must be building week on week now!:D :D

Hi Sugarpants, you just need trainers, comfy clothes and a desire to get out there and run! Take it easy at first and don't try to run too fast or too far. It would be useful if you let us know your goals, i.e. to lose weight, run 5k, whatever, then we could help by giving more specific advice/encouragement, etc. Keep popping in to let us know how you are getting on.

Oh, and don't be put off by talk of long distances, etc. We are all at different stages and if your goal is to run a mile, it is no less of a goal than running a marathon!

    Welcome!

    Pah
By far the coldest and bitter winds I have ever experienced. Managed 11 miles but at that point still not even warmed up muscles hurting and got pins and needles all up my arms I was so cold resorted to going home. Only a mile off todays target, a little dissapointed but hey I nearly stayed in bed so can't really complain. 14 miles next sunday though!
