    Wowee...Becky's a runner again!!:D:D

There's not much wrong with you if you can come straight out with a comfortable run like that. A week of seeing how it goes and then back into it?

Uk - Good running there, but it is a serious point that Becky is making. You won't feel it while everything is going well but you are running most of these runs at a pace that was your half marathon race pace in the last few weeks....that is far too fast for distance runs.

Too much of that and the legs will stop cooperating, in that the glycogen replenishment process will break down and leave you struggling at much slower paces.

You've progressed a long way very quickly so need to run the distance runs very comfortably to allow that progress to continue.

Read any of the accounts of the top marathon runners and they all concur that the biggest mistake runners make is to run their slow runs too quickly and their speed sessions too slowly!

Ooo look at me a runner and making serious points

Um yeah it was tough though on the lungs because the legs wanted to push so I kept having to slow down and let the lungs catch up :p

Indeed a week of how goes it then hopefully into proper training again - good news is no sore shins :D:D

I'VE BEEN RUNNING sorry for shouting :D

4 miles in 36 minutes ish and a 10 minute walk (about 0.60 miles) to cool down - i feel good :D

Off to have a nice bath now - its hot out ;)

Good to see that you got out running will no ill effects Becky; let's hope that your vitamin supplements work their magic :D

Thanks for posting such excellent advice for newbies to the thread - can I just suggest an addition that both Rich and mascott have mentioned recently and that is - 'consistency'. We all know from experience that life construes to get in the way of running but the most progress is made by making the time and getting out there regularly. It's not always easy to fit runs (or walks) in around work and family commitments but regular sessions really do pay off.

It was a 4 mile home from work hilly run for me again yesterday - 00:40:10 (09:59/mile). My legs felt stronger than on Tuesday's run but it was hot, hot, hot!! It's a rest day for me today before my 12 miles tomorrow. :j

  • Monday 5k 00:33: <felt like a bad day it was a real struggle

Wednesday 10K - 01:09:35(first 5k 33m ish) < Got soaked to the skin in the first 2k>:eek:Luckily I am now brave enough to wear shorts and my 'real' running top. I appear to have knocked 5k off my 10k time so I do seem to be making progress, think maybe now is the time to add more running sessions to my week now that the legs only ache rather than hurt the day after runs. My wieght is also still dropping :j

Well done on your 10K kycu; it's great when you can see progress isn't it?? How many times a week are you running at the moment?

The results of Sunday's Netley 10K have been posted so I thought that I'd share my 'success' with you all.

My first ever official time for a 10K is recorded as 59:19, I finished 152nd out of 202 ladies and was 54th out of 76 finishers in my age group. My OH took some photos on the day so if I work out how to load them I will share my grimacing face with you later. :rotfl:

Oh i have been running 2-3 times and it should be more 3-4 i think. Grats on your time! much better than me (bloke) I just hope your a lot younger :rotfl:. If I am not last and under 30mins on my first 5k race I will be happy then I will think about a 10k. I rather suspect I am more suited to longer distances.

Thanks for the welcomes and advice guys, I am reading and digesting it all! My walk this morning was hampered by sore feet. Probably because I don't own a proper pair of trainers. :embarasse Only some rubbish fashionable things. So job today is to find a good pair of trainers suitable for walking/running on a bumpy damp field, plus a pair for my weekend walk to work on the flat pavements, as cheap as possible!

Does walking around the shops count as extra miles? :D

Walking around shops should count double, at least, its sooooooooo tiring!

Cant believe that some people actually look forward to the experience!:p:p

Hi, I've been a bit quiet recently, as I haven't been running and I've been so busy at work (I thought I was over the year-end 'hump' but it isn't easing off!) that I haven't had time to run, even though I do have the inclination. I went to the gym last night for a quick session to try to get my bingo wings toned up before the big day, on which any imperfections will be on show and photographed to be preserved for all eternity . I enjoyed the session, it was different and made a great change, but nothing like feeling the wind in your hair as you run along. I may get out later tonight, but I am having a make-up trial session at 6pm. If I do go for a run afterwards I'll be the best made-up runner for miles!

Becky, sorry you're feeling frustrated with your inconclusive results. The same happened to me if you remember. Blood tests for all kinds of things, all came back normal! I put it down to residual effects of a virus not having been shaken off, and I was right as rain a week or so later.
