Ha, ha keep convincing me Rich. :rotfl: Though seriously, although I don't find that route easy I did feel that my legs were stronger tonight and the hills were not as challenging as they were a few weeks ago so that can only be good.

sammy - I wish that I could run to work. Unfortunately we don't have any facilities for freshening up and I kind of work up a 'glow' when I run so it's running home only for me. Good result on your 10K; is your next race on the flat?

Well my next one was going to be the Leeds 10k on 21st June but looks like I am going for the warndon village 10k on 7th June. The route is 'undulating' according to runners world. I guess that means more ups and downs:rotfl:.

Can you add it to the plan Rich...

And actually Simply you have given me an idea, I could get DD2 to take me to work next Tuesday and I could run home (she has a day off so could pick DD3 up for me) :j

I think that you secretly like undulating routes sammy; I haven't got anther 10K lined up yet. Must get onto it this weekend. Re. running home from work - I'm lucky that we've got a secure car park so I drive to work, run home and get my OH to drop me in the next morning. Except this week when I've sold my car before lining up another one so I'm having to walk, run, bus and go by whatever method I can :rotfl::rotfl:

Welcome ssnurse - you'll get some good advice on here (not from me though because I'm not experienced enough yet). There'll be someone along soon to help you.

Hi, jp and welcome back - sorry to hear about the funeral but Mmmmm, Tunisia and sun. Lovely :T

Uk - donuts  What's that all about?? I thought that you were a lean, mean running machine!!!! :D

I got a package from the postman this morning with my BUPA London 10000m packup in it for Monday. I forgot I had signed up for that way back in January  I'm guessing I'll be a wee bit sore on Tuesday

:hello:Hi everyone, I'm Aylana and I'm an unfit student who has a dream of one day running a marathon!

Just finished my final year at uni which has involved lots of sitting down so about as far from running a marathon as you can get really. I have read all the advice on this thread and started with a walk this morning. Did 2 miles, all of the second mile was uphill (elevation of 72m according to mapmyrun) and I felt pretty good. So going to try extending it to 4 miles tomorrow.

I also have a route to work plotted that is about 6 miles long which I am going to do on Saturday morning. If I feel it is too long I can easily jump on the bus the rest of the way.

I will keep up the walking for the next few weeks and see how I go.

Good luck everyone with your goals.

    hi there

there is some really good advice hidden away in these pages from the more experienced runners so take 1/2 hr (or more!!!)to scan through.

a general opinion seems to be walking first and build up some strength.
you will be amazed how quickly you improve if you stick to it. i am really a beginner (since jan) but i am seeing improvements and i am 2 stone lighter.

my bit of advice is to force yourself to go out however much you dont feel like it ans afterwards you feel great.... (unless you are injured then you need to rest up)

good luck anyway and listen out from some good advice!!
