No problems there.
The sore shins are a sure sign of doing too much too soon - you might not think you were trying to do a great deal, but to your lower legs it was a big deal (in comparison to what they're used to) and as such they couldn't cope.
If you're not used to exercising, the sheath around your shin muscle becomes very inelastic and tight. If you try to exercise the shin muscle itself will swell due to the additional bloodflow but will find itself constrained by the inelastic sheath, thus creating pain and forcing you to stop.
To remedy this you need to tease some elasticity out of the sheath so that it can accommodate the workload of the muscle more comfortably. The way to do this is walking, preferably with a range of gradients to get the sheath stretched out.
How much walking? Well to be truthful - in the region of 200 miles, but it soon adds up with 6/7 mile walks and will have a whole range of other injury prevention benefits into the bargain.
Try not to be impatient, the groundwork will stand you in good stead.:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

No, UK......they HAVE to let you in once you've run sub 3 hours, I reckon you should have managed that before 2015!;)Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Well after feeling very sorry for myself and not running since Friday where I managed just a quarter of a mile (in my defense I was carrying shopping as well) I was very disheartened. Pulled myself together today and I ran half a mile. If I run on a dirt track I can run two thirds of a mile but I'm well and truly stuck.0

Rachel, what is it that's stopping you running further, do you think? Also, how regularly are you running? Regular running and loads of walking is key at the start.
I did a 4 miler this morning. Weather was just right, so I really enjoyed it, just plodding around. I was meant to do 6 miles, but I'm building up gradually to get back on track with the plan. The full milage would be too much of a shock to the system after my lazy week in Sapin I think!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
Morning All!
Stayed up late last night so no running this morning - am aiming for one this evening after meeting my granny and auntie for an early dinner but I am still tired (no doubt due to the late night) so we'll see how it goes - I really want to try the 400m intervals now I know I am doing the right distance

Hi Thought I would let you know im still running
. hospital gave me the all clear on my eyes so i ordered my prescription sun glasses :j.
I only ran 5k yesterday it was a bad run day I think I may have been a little dehydrated. So today I will do 10k. I seem to have hit that not getting any better phase which is dumb because although I started running back in january I have only done the real running in the last month or so (ie running non stop for longer distances). Seems that it takes me 3-4k to relax properly.
Glad everyones doing ok :T:staradmin5k - 00:27:46:staradmin 10k - 00:57.03:staradminHalf - 02:01:15:staradmin5M - 00:44:07:staradmin0
