But bums dont move - its boring - I like to watch something that moves but only has a limited range of motion - hence why calf muscles are good0

Have a fantastic time Chick!
Sprints for me yesterday, only 5 x 120 metres but starting small. Rest day today.0 -
Just thought I'd pop in and say a quick hello as I did my first 5k in ages this morning and am still a bit hyper from it
34 mins which I didn't think was too bad considering I was running into the wind a lot of the time, although a bit upsetting to look back to November when I was doing it in 28 mins!
Ooh and just treated myself to a few bits from M&M Direct - they've got Shock Absorber ladies shorts/ leggings/ tops for between £4-6, hoping the shorts and/ or leggings will be a bit more comfy than my current trousers which keep wriggling their way off my hips!
Hope you're all doing wellDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -

SHWA most of us use mapmyrun where you can find your location and plan a route and it will tell you the distance.
Well done Squizzer for that 5k this morning. Im off out for a little jaunt this evening, don't know where and how far, will see how the knees feel. And its blowing a gale here too!I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

I use a map and a measuring tapeor the route planner on Fetcheveryone site which is similar to Mapmyrun.

I, by contrast, measure my distance with a Garmin (GPS watch)0 -
Hi All
Been out tonight and power walked for 4 miles while my sons were at cricket practice. I started running after Christmas following a run/walk/run programme. To begin with it all went great and got me motivated but I started to have problems last month. I dont know whether it was because I stumbled on a rough path while I was running, or because something else has gone wrong. I started to get a pain in my groin/hip which was so bad that it stopped me running completely. Anyway, after reading all the advice on here I decided to scrap the plan I was on and start again.
So, I went out tonight and did my 4 mile walk, it took me nearly an hour (but it was very windy)!!! I do feel great though, bit achy but no pain anywhere and I feel like I have had a proper work out. I plan to slowly build this up to running the whole route.
I hope my experience might help someone else trying to decide on the best way to start out. There is so much advice out there and it is soooo confusing. Personally I think there are several problems with the run/walk plans, firstly that they encourage you to fit a burst of exercise into a short period of time. This doesnt allow for a warm up or cool down. Secondly they are a "one size fits all" approach making no allowance for age, weight, fitness etc. You kind of feel pushed to follow the plan rather than listening to your own body. Another possible problem is that although I have been running for 4 months I have never really covered any distance and I guess in the long term this isnt going to build up my stamina.
Sorry for the long post, like I say just thought it might be helpful to some other newbies. I love reading the other posts on here, it gives me a bit of motivation to get out there and do it!
Anyway busy day tomorrow so off for a good nights sleep.0
