Hi Twitty
Welcome to the thread
Yep brisk walking (so you're out of breath) for as long as possible and then building up from there
Dont worry if they think you're mad - its worth it!0 -
Well done - some nice running there
How many weeks till top 10 then eh
Well top 10 in April took 22:25, so thats some way off yet. I think it was a lot closer tonight because I could still see 10th place as we were approaching the finish.
But this is a hardcore type race, every place is fought to the death for - those South Yorkshire club boys and girls dont give anything away easily.:p
I still cant compute that I've been round this in sub 20, the winners are not getting anywhere near that now! Maybe i dreamt it!:p:pGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

As often as you want Twitty - but every other day should be fine for the first week or so and then you can up it to every day
Aim to keep going for about 45 minutes if you can - but dont worry if you cant the first few times0 -
Did an 8k run yesterday, I did think it was 10k but when i hit '5k' in 28mins I knew something was wrong . Anyway it wasnt my usual route and it was very up and down with long hills (to me :rotfl:). As a consequence my legs are killing me today so I probably will not run till Sunday now. I suppose going from 3-4k to 18k (a week) in two weeks is pushing it a bit on the plus side none of the pain feels like an actual injury like the sides of my knees are sore but its not the joints.
Good luck to all the new people in the thread (it moves so fast:eek:).:staradmin5k - 00:27:46:staradmin 10k - 00:57.03:staradminHalf - 02:01:15:staradmin5M - 00:44:07:staradmin0 -
Well done KYCU.
Did you map it on mapmyrun? The distances on there are very accurate, although the elevation profiles should be taken with a pinch of salt:p.
I've mapped a few 400m running tracks and they all come out at 0.40km, not 0.39km or 0.41km so that gives you an idea of how much confidence you can have in the mapmyrun distances.
Good running anyway and a little soreness when you've had a big jump in mileage is nothing to worry about. However, it does emphasise why weekly increases should be kept under 20%.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Morning
Been warned off any speedwork todayso going out for another slow one this evening - maybe 6 miles or so
Sally I hope your knees are better this morning!
Well done on the run KYCU!0 -
rich - Yep I use mapmyrun i made an account there to log my milage same user name as here. I only used it after the run because i thought i remembered it being 3 miles to the roundabout. My usual route i worked out first (then one from my place) so it takes me round the village and I think I run the hard way round because everyone else runs opposite direction to me so they have a gentle uphill where as i have a steep incline. So anyway I ran from the GF's yesterday, bolton is nothing but hills. Some guy ran past me on my way back like he was a porsche and I was a ride on mower :rotfl:. However I managed to ignore my wounded ego and thought ' thats me in 12 months'
. My legs dont feel so bad now everything has warmed back up but its hard to walk down any stairs! I felt fine running it was only when I stopped I realised I had probably over done it!
Becky - why warned off? because of the bone scan?
/ramble over :rotfl::staradmin5k - 00:27:46:staradmin 10k - 00:57.03:staradminHalf - 02:01:15:staradmin5M - 00:44:07:staradmin0 -
No Rich told me off for thinking about it as its only 11 days after the marathon and I'm still tired
I am soooo tired today as well - have resorted to warm tea on the cheek
Also me and Rich went out running in Leeds a while back and this guy steamed up the hill past us and looked really rough and worn out and obviously had to make an effort to beat us up there, whereas we were like 'yeah whatever', but the next time Rich went out he saw the same guy and put some effort in and totally breezed past on the same hill and the guy looked really dejected
Most people get too competitive (myself included) with other runners when it doesnt make any difference - he might have only been doing a fast rep mile for exmaple0 -

Not the way to do it at all.
Proper decorum:
1) Sprint fast, as fast as you possibly can
2) Get round the corner
3) Dive into a bush and be *really quiet* until he's gone past
4) Resume running as usual
...and don't think I'm joking!!0
