Well did my first run outdoors in the new trainers at lunch...Didn't go *as* smoothly as planned.

Two pairs set out, one to do the 5mile route, on to do the 3, thought I'd stick with the 3 to go gently on the new trainers, anyway, got to a certain distance and realised that I'd been keeping up with the 5 mile pair quite absent-mindedly and we got to a T-junction. I asked the pair I was with whether the 3 mile route went the same way they did and they said yes, so I went with them, but slowed down to wait for the 3-milers. Anyway, they weren't in sight, so I slowed down some more...Until about 3 minutes later when I realised they must have gone the other way at the T junction - so then I had to turn around and speed to catch up to them...must have done the mile in 6:something, really flew...but I caught up eventually and it all worked out ok in the end :)

My legs are feeling a little shin-splinty after the run, which I'm hoping's just because I ran so fast on relatively cool legs and not to do with the shoes, but I'll keep an eye on it and will get some sorbawotsits if it doesn't improve.

Good news is there was still no rubbing or discomfort from the shoes themselves and (this sounds a stupid thing to say) they were much more comfortable to take off than my old ones...Just as I unfastened them and lifted them off I thought "ahh, that feels nice" - not in the sense that I was pleased to be out of them, just that they fit a lot better so my foot comes out a lot smoother, I think :)

chick - if you are about - are you getting excited about your marathon now?

Hi there, yes, I'm still about, just lurking at the moment as I haven't had anything much to say. I didn't run from last Tuesday to yesterday (and boy, was I grumpy!) because of my back. I wasn't in a good shape to run until about Monday anyway. I went out last night and did about 6 miles. I forgot to take either a watch or my Garmin, so I don't know exactly how long it took, or exactly how far it was - quite a liberating feeling, to be honest!

Anyway, the back is still Ok so I'll have another run later and see if it holds up. I was concerned that after a week without running I'd be stiff but I felt really good.

I'm really looking forward to Prague now. I haven't spoken to anyone who has been there and didn't love it. As far as the race goes, yes I'm looking forward to it. I won't be setting out to break any records, because my training has been interrupted by illness and injury quite a lot (age creeping up on me?), and I haven't done as many long runs as I would have liked to in an ideal world. I'm not nervous yet but I do get a little buzz of excitement when I think about lining up on the start line.

Great to see you all recovering so well. The second day after the marathon isusually the funniest (for the onlookers at least) when going down stairs is absolutely impossible!

Hey All - no chance of m doing ultras EVER :D, first things first lets put that effort into the run to get the time down eh ;)

Went for a short run today (2 miles) - tired out quickly but it was fine, stairs are much easier today and its a lot cooler here so I'll go out for an hour or so tomorrow :D

    Happy running all!

Thanks everyone for your very warm welcome. I'm thinking of maybe trying a marathon in 2011, All my exams should be finished by then and I can concentrate on one thing at a time.

OMG they are Bloody awful. Why aren't there any of the ones near the end where there were loads of photographers and I was smiling sweetly! Typical, oh well

Nope, you look pretty good....in fact you have a broad smile going over Tower Bridge. At the finish its difficult to tell because you were keen to stop your watch as you crossed the line.:D

I cant really post you the link because thats tantamount to posting the pics - I'll PM the link.

Edit: Ah, I see you've found them! Whats wrong with them, though?
