  • We need more beginners on here! I have my first 5k on May 10th and I have no idea what my time will be - just as long as I get round and I'll be happy :o

JJ - I couldn't run 5K, regardless of the time, in October - in fact I was struggling to get to a mile and then walking home. It was quite a milestone when I finished the first continuous 5K in something like 35 mins.

So tell Mrs JJ to get posting, we all know that the biggest gains come in the early stages so we want to see the smile grow as Mrs JJ feels the improvements.:D:D

Evening all, iv not done anything today, had the physio try and sort out my knees. They always feel a little bit funny after they get played with.

But on a positive note my OH got to the gym for a run on the treadmill, shes says shes not confident enough to run outside yet but is happy to go to the gym and run. I keep telling her shes doing well and should post on here but she keeps saying shes too slow and youll all laugh at her. I know that you wouldnt.

Her times are 5km in 37mins, on saturday this was 52mins for her. Iv told her thats really good especially for someone thats not been in a gym for over 6 years. Shell be reading this in a bit ( she always reads my posts!!!!)

Well Done rich thats some nice speed work and some super quick miles.

hes such a grass although painfully honest, im still to frigtened to go anywere like he said its been 6 years and i had to lose 3 stone 4 to get to the point i ca even begin to think about excercise but im there now, just trying toget somewhere near johns time, i do run funny though as the physio stuffed my hip and knee up when i was pregnant now 6 months after having the baby the knee and hip still hurt, im happy to be down too 37mins though and to have gone from 5 mins running to doing a solid 30 tonight, watchout john ill be catching you soon even with a dodgy hip
back to comping in 2017, fingers crossed

    You see - that wasn't that scary!:D:D

You've already come a long way in respect of both weight loss and increase of duration of runs. You will keep on improving by just taking the same steady approach as you have been - just let your body tell you when it wants to do more because it most certainly will!:D

lol confidence isnt my thing im afraid.
Ive just been doing my own thing and pushing myself as hard as i can, using john as my goal, plus he wants me to run the marathon with him next year so we will see, cant ever imagine running all that way

You may, or may not, want to go all the way to tackling a marathon - its a big, big challenge.

But break it down into bite sized chunks and see how it goes - aim for a 5K race at some point, then a 10K, 10 Mile, 1/2 Marathon.....and then if you're still enjoying the progress go for it, if its getting too much stick with the shorter distances - its all down to what your body wants to do, all you have to do is listen to it, its a very clever machine you have there.:D:D

    Hello jpwhittle.

I couldn't sleep so went out on a run this morning. I added 2 more streets to my run and ran just under half a mile. I was out of breath but not to the point that I was finding it hard to breathe.

Excellent improvements there jp and rachel :T

As rich pointed out, it is not that long ago that we were at the same stages in our running........in October, I could only go quarter of a mile before having to stop.
