Rich not really eating much more than normal just I don't generally eat a lot of carbs and I suppose also lack of miles this week too!
Interesting stats from the marathon..amazing how many people drop out! Its a shame that they don't offer those places as club/Good for age places at the last min. I mean for example, if you got offered, you are physically in tip top shape for marathon, and given a couple of weeks notice I am sure you would jump at the chance to run...or am I wrong?
Okay, well back off now then - it sounds like you have plenty carbs in your body for the job!:D:D
The drop outs are factored in to the planning so there aren't actually any spare places.
But no - I wouldn't even consider it just 3 weeks after the last one. You only have a couple, three at most, good attempts at a marathon in your legs each year - there's no point in wasting them!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Marathon frenzy still rife on here I see!
I don't know why some of you don't want to look around the Expo. I really enjoy it. There is always loads to see, stuff you have never seen and loads of new products. You often have the opportunity to try things out, get foot analysis done, chat to people who know loads about running, speak to promotors of races, UK and overseas, as well as pick up loads of freebies. When I went to Paris, the first marathon I did, I have as many great memories of the expo as of the race. I have a brilliant photo of my OH and some other work colleagues, sitting with their feet on those rolling foot massage machines. They were really tickly, so they are all laughing their heads off! It was great. In London I have always bumped into someone I know too. I can't understand why it is good to be in and out in 3 minutes, I think it is part of the experience.
Had a bit of a setback today. I woke up and my back muscles were going into spasm. I could hardly breathe it was so painful. Been to the doc's this morning and I have a sprained muscle. Ibuprofen, paracetamol and moving about are all recommended, but running isn't! TBH I couldn't run if I tried today. Really annoying but at least it isn't 3 days before my race, so hopefully I'll be OK for Prague.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Hope your back gets better very soon xxSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
So, I was talking to one of my running friends the other day about gait analysis and that kinda thing - she said that I should take a look at the bottom of my shoes to look at the wear pattern - I'd never really thought of doing that before, tbh.
Anyway, had a look today and for the most part they look good as new, but on the outside at the back they're really quite heavily worn, through the "rubbery" bit, down to the white plastic underneath. Only around three quarters of an inch is worn that much...
Now, the questions: 1) is it worth replacing trainers if they're only wearing in the one spot? (I guess they've done 450-500 miles) Seems a bit of a waste of otherwise decent shoes. 2) I'd guess this uneven wear's down to my stride, so I guess some "analysed" shoes might even out the wear a bit - so might last longer?0 -
Well mine wear almost perfectly evenly - so yes get your feet checked and take your shoes along - they'll be able to tell you if need a new pair0

Well from what I know about gait analysys, if you over-pronate, your shoes wear more on the inside edge. If you under-pronate, the outside edge, and if you are a neutral runner, they wear evenly. Gait analysis looks mainly at the way your feet roll (outside to inside) as you run.
I think you are a heel-strike person Idio, but as far as I am aware, no shoe will correct that, it is just your style. It is the wear pattern at the front of the shoe that will give the clue as to under/over pronation. I see some runners whose heel never touches the ground, they just seem to tiptoe along.
After 450 - 500 miles, I would definitely be looking at new shoes though. I bet you notice a huge difference if you buy some new ones.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Idio, from your description I'd say there's not a lot wrong.
As Chick says, it just means that you are predominantly heel striking. You will find that when you do faster runs that you heel strike less and when you ease off, and therefore move your centre of gravity back a bit, you heel strike more.
Get it checked, but you'll probably be described as 'normal'.
Chick, sorry to hear about your back - hope its just one of those things and sorts itself out - sounds painful though!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

I went for a run this afternoon in my walking boots (forgot to change into my trainers before I left). I think they slowed me down and I was not so out of puff when I got to my third of a mile. Also a three day break may of helped.
Good luck to all those preparing for the Marathon. It has always been my dream to run the London Marathon.0
