God I had an awful nights sleep last night so I hope I get a decent one tonight. Thank god its last day of total carb overload...had trouble eating breakfast this morning I am so bloated. Guess whats for lunch today!
How much are you eating, Sally?!!!
A little bloated is okay but you shouldn't be eating any more than usual - just shifting the emphasis to carbs for a few days!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Not really done any kinda of running this week, been working 2pm till 12am this week, so no time to get out and about.
Fired through the MSFT yesterday as expected, stopped at 10.03 as everyone else had stopped, I wanted to get to 11.0 but people were stood waiting, always feel like im keeping people behind.
Weighed in at 73.8kgs, so only 8.8kgs over my initial weight when i was 20yrs old. Looking at me, maybe another 1kg to lose and that will prob be me done in all the weight i can lose.0 -
Interesting London Stats:
The table has crunched up but it is interesting to see how the dropout figures before the actual start have steadily increased over the years to the point where about 25% regularly drop out in advance - thats a hell of a lot of injuries (or lack of training!). So 13,500 last year were accepted and didn't make it to the start line!

An interesting quote from one of last year's runners:
"The sight of people running the last few miles with blood running from various parts of their body still haunts me..."
Another reminder to smear that vaseline everywhere.......

Rich I just tageed that info into a graph series and interestingly enough although drop-out rates to start line are massive now - completion rate from start line to end of race are up to 98-99% from 88% in 1981 - so less people start, but more of those who do start actually finish0

Rich not really eating much more than normal just I don't generally eat a lot of carbs and I suppose also lack of miles this week too!
Interesting stats from the marathon..amazing how many people drop out! Its a shame that they don't offer those places as club/Good for age places at the last min. I mean for example, if you got offered, you are physically in tip top shape for marathon, and given a couple of weeks notice I am sure you would jump at the chance to run...or am I wrong?I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

An update from Pania - she will not be running on Sunday, having seriously damaged her knee again.....
She is hoping to come to the start to watch but will see how things go for the next couple of days.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
It is interesting, although there are no time limits now for getting a recorded result so that is a big factor.
And a big percentage of drop outs in the early years would be club runners dropping out at, say, 15-18 miles when realising a PB was out of reach. In that way they were able to treat it as a long training run and target another marathon shortly after. Of course there were plenty good quality marathons to have a go at then.
Also, the definition of starters has changed. Before chip timing I assume it was defined as those that picked up their number at the expo, so some may not have actually started the race.
Whereas now you would have to actually cross the start line to be defined as a starter.
However you look at it though 98% getting to the finish is some stat!!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Sorry to hear about Pania - it would be great if she could make the start though
Sally - I htink the problem with that is - people wont have trained for it and if they say they are in top nick and then are really unfit it just hastens the decline in standards and the treating the marathon like a walk in the park - just been on twitter an someone on there completed in 7:30 last year and has only run 300 miles in training again this year - well they are on for another 7 hour - why do people do it to themselves??0
