Week28
Mon9/3 Rest Day
Tues10/3 10K 55:33 (8:58/mile) (Pulse 82)
I've been laid low for the last 36 hours or so. As I suspected during Sunday's run, something was lurking in the system (hence cutting the planned 20 miler short to 8 miles) but the pulse at the end of the run was perfectly normal.
However, during the evening it kept rising to around 130, which meant I had a higher pulse laying on the sofa wrapped in a duvet than during any of the runs last week:eek: ! Shortly after I was shivering despite being wrapped up and got other symptoms such as my eyeballs feeling very hot!
The good news is that during heavy training the immune system also becomes very highly trained and, given the chance to get on with it's job, it usually wins the battle pretty quickly!:D Yesterday was a very sleepy, low energy day but by this morning I was feeling great again.
You can't really tell that everything is back in order, though, until doing a gentle run and seeing how the pulse performs. Hence, very pleased with this morning's 10K which looks normal enough.:D
Since this week ends with a hard 20 mile race, chasing Chickadee around Morecambe and Lancaster!:p , it is now going to be a '3 rest day' week which will mean a reduced mileage of around 66 miles.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hi all, thanks for your kind wishes. Unfortunately today I feel dreadful again and am stuck at home. Even post-Beechams I feel bunged up and achy, and I know what Rich was on about when he said his eyeballs felt hot. Weird but true!RichOneday wrote: »Since this week ends with a hard 20 mile race, chasing Chickadee around Morecambe and Lancaster!:p
I'm hoping to be right as rain by the weekend, hence the complete rest day today. I'll need to be on form to keep Rich on his toes on Sunday. Looking forward to it!

Yep, another one coming down with the lurgy, I think rest till Thursday.....
I'm happy with how the training is going, the shift work is getting in the way, but I do catch up. Had a good week last week so I need to not panic about the marathon (which is common apparently).0 -
hey folks the lurgy has well and truly battered me! but the good news is that it's not tonsilitis!!!!!
my throat actually cleared up over night, but now i too have the hot eyes, very weird feeling!!!! and bunged up despite constantly running nose
I miss the gym, but i ache all over, am hoping that more beechams, and another early night will help to shift this nasty bug!

Hi All!
Rusty's post got me thinking about the fear of marathon day and how unecessary it is if you've trained well
That then got me thinking about my progress on my running training so far and I just thought I would work up some interesting stats for you guys...
To date this year I have run 396 miles , my longest run is 20 miles (twice in fact) and I've averaged over 160 miles per complete month...
So far since I began training for the marathon in October last year I have run 806 miles :eek:, starting at a long run of 10 miles and if all goes to plan in the next month and a half I will have run 1,070 miles as part of my marathon training - thats a lot of miles to run another 26.2:rotfl::rotfl:
Here's a little table for those so inclined:
Oct 08 130 miles total (10 miles longest run)
Nov 08 137 miles total (14 miles longest run)
Dec 08 143 miles total (13 miles longest run)
Jan 09 144 miles total (including a week off in NY) (18.5 miles longest run)
Feb 09 179 miles in total (20 mile longest run)
Mar 09 187 miles total according to plan (20 miles longest run)
Apr 09 177 miles total according to plan (26.2 miles longest - duh!)
Wow I'd hate to think what Rich's looks like :rolleyes: and I'm soooo going to enjoy my 2 weeks off running post marathon day
Happy running all!

Nice stats, Becky!:D
It just shows how gradual the progression has been, with no dramatic shocks for the body to cope with in terms of both overall mileage and longest runs.
And, as you say, running the equivalent of 40 marathons to prepare for 1 should leave you feeling pretty much ready for the event........:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

It would have been more gradual apart from that week in NY made it look a bit weird but its very interesting reading I thought on how you can train the body to take more and more miles without any major injuries - still I cant believe Paula runs 350 miles a month (well not at the moment obivously
)...

Paula gets up to 600 in a month at times!
I think I just sneaked over 300 in February, but I'm intrigued now re monthly stats - its not something I normally look at!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
